Looking at getting a bigger saw this spring. Anyone had much experience with the 462's yet?

been running them sense they came out so well over a year , zero problems and I like how they feel and cut , nice and light

What are your intended uses, what size bar do you plan on running, what are you cutting? I've got a 362 and a 661, so I can't comment on the 462. I will say that the 362CM is my favorite, and could handle all I do except the chainsaw milling, so usage is probably the biggest consideration. For the price, I'd look at the 362 vs the 462 unless you are really planning on putting it to work.  Just my 2 cents.

I had a new 362 and traded it off to a buddy of mine, the 462 is pretty much the same weight but a lot more power

I opted for the 462 over the 362 3 months ago.  I believe the 362 is the better choice for most cutting (not professional) unless you are using a 25 inch bar or larger.  Really uses  gas.

well I currently have a 290 and a 311 but they are basically the same saw - slight difference in the 311 since the chain steps up to 3/8. Both run 20" stihl bars. I need a big saw every now and then but most of the time what I have is fine so im having a hard time selling myself on the $1k price tag but I know stihls are worth the money and I prob wont regret it in the long run - the 2 I have are worth 10x what I paid for them and have earned their keep. I don't feel like it makes sense to spend that much money to just go from a 311 to a 362 even though it is a step up. If im going bigger i want it to handle everything ill ever run into to justify the price tag. I have ruled out the 661 as too much saw - If I went with the 462 I would run a lightweight 28" on it and that would be my "big saw". I currently treat my 290 like a limbing/firewood saw and use my 311 for felling and bucking but both will do either for the most part except for the limitation of the 20' bar on bigger hardwoods. I imagine if I ever ran the 462 I would never look back because its a totally different class of saw then what im used to. I wish I had a neighbor with one.
