I hate the quick chain adjuster on my Stihl MS180C. Does anyone have the part numbers to convert it to a MS180 (conventional chain adjuster)?

Thanks! That is helpful. Now, if I could just get someone to indicate which parts I need to make the conversion.

Looks like it might be as easy as a new sprocket cover and tensioning set, I'd have an easier time with it if I could see the saw in front of me.

I'm willing to bet someone on this forum has done this conversion.

In the parts diagram you will need 25,26,27,28,29.

Hamish, have you actually done the conversion?

Yes, the clamshell is the same on both models, you just need the tensioner assembly and clutch cover/bar nut.

Find someone with a 170 that wants to upgrade.   I actually like the built in tensioner on a 180.  When running a new chain, that stretches out to start with, the tension can be increased without turning the saw off, or even putting it down.

I used the little 180, all this afternoon, in a lift bucket.  I like a tight chain, so the built in adjuster was good to tighten it while up in the air, without having to put it down.  To suit me, I think I tightened it a couple of times in a long afternoon.

It's just on its second chain, and I swear it seems like it's getting stronger.  At 230 bucks, I just use them until they get tired, and get another one.
