I was wondering how you all compress the compression ring to get these small engines back together when you rebuild them ?

The 2-cycle engines I have rebuilt have a chamfer on the bottom just for compressing the rings.  Make sure you have the rings positioned correctly so the line-up pin (if they have one) ends up at the end of the ring instead of under the middle of the ring.
I eat a high-fiber diet.  Lots of sawdust!

Thanks for the help.  I just changed the clutch in my Makita and was just wondering incase I end up doing a rebuild in the future.

I have always fought with the rings in the past, but I heard an ingenious idea recently. Get a zip tie, a wide one if you have 2 rings and a thinner one would work with 1 ring piston. Tighten it up around the rings and slide the piston into the cylinder. the zip tie will slide down as the piston slides in and then just snip it off.

That is a good idea, never ever thought of that one thanks for the suggestion !
