What is this wood? Michigan
« on: April 20, 2020, 04:00:06 PM »

Any help identifying this wood? From West Michigan. The wood inside is yellowish and heavily grained. I don't have pics of the leaves, unfortunately, but I have included some pics of cut slabs, bark pieces, and end cut.

I also believe that it is mulberry.  If Osage orange, the pores will be plugged with tyloses.  Like white oak.  If mulberry, the pores will be open like red oak.  You will have to make a clean slice on the end grain with a razor knife to see this.

My middle brother bought an old house in Topeka, KS some yrs back. FWIW, it is a Frank Lloyd Wright home built by a rich guy who built the old Grand theater in town there back in vaudeville days. it has a redbud on the porch corner which I remarked was the biggest I've ever seen. he called the ext agent who measured it and it's now on the KS tree list I think for redbud. it's sure not THAT BIG! as seen above... :D
I vote for mulberry which is in the realm of size possibility and that color too.
