Stihl light bars

I was at a local stihl dealer today looking at a Ms462cm. The owner didn't have much good to say about the light bars. He said he doesn't even carry them because they don't stand up. Is there any truth to this? I thought the light bar on that saw was part of what makes it so good. I don't do any commercial cutting so it doesn't have to stand up to daily use and abuse.

They won't stand up as well to being torqued around if you're in the habit of getting the bar pinched, but it's the same bar as the ES with pockets milled out. Not sure how it couldn't hold up.

I would say your dealer is right.  If a tree moves just a bit and pinches you at all I've found the light bars are gone.  A regular bar you can recover with a wedge and bring the tree back.  Anyway, an expensive solution in want of a problem, we could not actually find much difference in handling/weight perspective either.  Maybe we'll try a Sugi one day.

Thanks guys. I do tend to get the bar pinched from time to time but I'm not too hard on stuff. I guess I'll see if I find a dealer that has one in stock and decide if I want to spend the extra money.

Never had a problem with them, in fact my 461R wears the 20" ES light most of the time. The long bar is used only when I have to. Filing  that many cutters Is just no fun after a while.
If you get it pinched. Stop and pause for a minute and and don't think of it as a pry bar. I know, it's hard to not want to yank it around while looking up at where it's leaning but a cool head in these rare situations will save a lot of equipment.
I would recommend them for all around use, believe me the power head will balance much better and your back will thank you  after a long day of bucking on the pile.

on my falling saw I use the light bars and they hold up very well for me , On landing I just run the ES bars , on a 462 the 24 inch light makes the saw feel a lot nicer in my hands , not nose heavy
