New STIHL MS261C-M
« on: October 20, 2020, 02:46:35 PM »
After replacing my 13 year old PoulanPro bought during an ice storm, when any chainsaw was very hard to find. 13 years later sadly when trying to clean fuel filter the small tubing cracked this happened before  finishing my brush project, so off i went looking to replace it.

I was advised by this young chap to buy the STIHL MS 211 think because of me being 82, the guy thought it might all i could handle safely and it worked out Ok and i finished my bush project.

Now i am getting involved with getting firewood and clearing for people living near me, nothing wrong with the STIHL MS 211 doing the job but after watching a few videos of people using both the MS 211 and the STHIL MS 261 CM, thought this chainsaw might be a game changer in speeding up the up coming projects.

First off i find the MS 261 CM a lot easer to start then the 211 and the weight of the 211 is 9.5 Lb. the 261 10.8 Lb. so the 261 is just 1.3 Lb more weight to handle i really can't feel any difference.

I sure don't mind having both the smaler 211 and the larger 261, but the point i am making if one don't mind paying twice the price for the 261 over the 211,  i might add both have 18 inch bars but later if i want to push it to a 20 inch bar the 261 will have an advantage.

I remember reading where an older gent who was hard of hearing, was ariving on the job sight and some young guy yelled out he's late.

The old gent hearing what he thought was being "said can he carry the freight". And he replied loudly HELL YES I CAN CARRY THE FREIGHT.

So today i say the same as that old hard hearing gent,  HELL YES I CAN CARRY THE FREIGHT.

Maybe next it's going to be a STIHL MS 880 or MS 881 if they hit the US Market.

If you can pack an 880 at 82 you are a better man than I. :D I sold a good number of MS260s in my day, most with 18" bars which the saw handles easily. I retired before the 261cm came out so have never had a chance to try one but sure seems popular.

The 261 is a different animal compared to the small 211. It'll definetly speed up your projects and it's not that much heavier than the 211. And the fact that it's M-tronic, so it'll always be performing at its best.

If you look close my dealer has to chain his STIHL Pro. Saws to the bench, they have been broken into many time and taking the high end saws.
So i could only life the 800 a short lift, i was luck today they had just put the 261 on the bench and it was not chained, i picked it up saleman asked me what i thought i said i will take it.
In my crime infested cow town, you don't even wander into the woods, unless your armed i don't even walk my dog on my block without my handgun.
When i was setting the 261 up today, i took it into the backyard where it could not be seen.

The local dealer only puts the connsumer saws on display, the drug fueled thefts are common here too. >:( This is logging country so the market for black market saws is strong, he has lost some in spite of his security measures.
