Raider Bill

The First 72 years of childhood is always the hardest.
My advice on aging gracefully... ride fast bikes and date faster women, drink good tequila, practice your draw daily, be honest and fair in your dealings, but suffer not fools. Eat a hearty breakfast, and remember, ALL politicians are crooks.

I'm doing a radio talk show in a couple of weeks about 'firewood'. SO I was searching for some sort of music related to firewood, wood burning, wood stoves, or whatever. This one popped into my head, it's a long time favorite I had memorized when it came out and I was pleased to see I hadn't forgotten the timing or lyrics. Not sure if we should use this on the show or if I should keep looking, but I sure haven't found much else.

The Woodcutter's Song - Robin Williamson

AH, That's a good one SD! Never heard that before. I especially like the last 4 lines in the lyrics which share my view on Ash, which these other two fellas are not quite of the same opinion and ironically started our whole conversation. Ash is NOT one of their favorites, but it certainly is my preferred wood.
....
But ash logs smooth and grey
Buy them green or old, sir
and buy up all that come your way
They're worth their weight in gold sir

Copper Kettle - YouTube

Old Greenhorn, "The Hillmen" 1969 bluegrass version of "Copper Kettle", great verse about firewood.

Build you a fire with hickory
Hickory ash and oak
Don't use no green or rotten wood
They'll get you by the the smoke
We'll just lay there by the juniper
While the moon is bright
Watch them jugs a filling
In the pale moon light

Interesting tune. I see that Chris Hillman, the mando player in this group later became the bass player for the Byrds. Small world.
