There was foreign made components on the USA saws but I did not see any Chinese writing on any that I looked at.

I was in my Stihl store this morning.  The Pro saws were all Made in Germany.  All of the others were made in the USA.  There was nothing that said anything about China.
Does Stihl build saws in China, or just make parts there?
NYH1.
I've heard that the homeowner models (not just Stihl, Husky also does, not sure about Echo) are often made in China now unfortunately.

I did not see Made in China on any saws including the MS170.

I believe Stihl has a factory in China, but it mostly builds for the Chinese / Asian market, and I'm not sure if they even do chainsaws. Having said that, it is actually a factory operated by Stihl, not just an operation contracted out to the lowest random bidder. Cheap crap is crap no matter where it's built. Decent stuff can be made in China, but it's not so cheap.

As I've said before no matter what the brand name you have no idea where the components are made .One example is the Stihl 200T ,one of the best trim saws ever made with a Zama C1Q carb .Originally made in Japan but later in China where it had problems which were corrected after a  time .
It may come as a surprise but no matter chainsaws ,automobiles ,power tools contain parts from all over the world .Just the way it is .

The MS462 (non C-M) I picked up this morning was made in Germany but the 25" bar says made in Brazil.
