Quote from: Otis1 on April 20, 2025, 07:56:36 PMI think a 17' Old Town would be in the $300-$600 range depending on model, condition and hull material. I paid $600 for mine a few years ago, 17' Tripper in great condition and had been stored in a boat house.
That's what I was using the other day..my 17' tripper.  It's a great, stable canoe for fishing.  Today I went out in my Penobscot 16.  That's a great boat too.  They are both royalex.

Jeff, I think I remember seeing your canoe.  I think it was a discovery made out of triple layer polyethylene.  Not as desirable as royalex because it is considerably heavier.  Probably worth around $200.

I'm not supposed to be lifting things, but it took no effort

Like FFOTS said, yours is not a Royalex model, Jeff. However, I think it would go for $400-$500 around here.

$400-500 wouldn't be a hard sell around here either.

I have a local dealer near here.

I have watched the used canoe market decline recently.  I have sort of a side deal where I look for royalex canoes that need to be rebuilt.  I bought an Old Town Penobscot 17 for 300 and did some work, including new seats and some Kevlar skid plates.  I sold it for $750.  I still see similar boats listed for similar price, but they seem to linger because the market isn't what it was 5 years ago during Covid.  I'm currently rebuilding a Mad River Explorer that needed all new gunwales and seats and thwart.  I bought it for $23 at an auction.  I'm finishing up the seats today with webbing.  I've already installed gunwales and the center thwart.  I could maybe sell it for $500 and have invested about $100.  I may also keep it and use it.

Id trade mine for a kayak we could use in the pond.

And that is why the canoe market is declining, Jeff😊 Everyone is going to kayaks.

Its kinda useless for me. Now if my pond was a couple acres, it'd be different I imagine.

Oh I get that. Plus it's kinda difficult to use a two person canoe by yourself.

Here's a few pics of the canoe I'm working on.  I'm using yellow pine for everything.  I picked up these boards that were old school bleachers seats.  Nice clear, old growth boards.

This morning I decided I would sell my Penobscot 16 and got it nice and cleaned up.  Several hours ago I found a nice Penobscot 17 for sale for a great price and picked it up. I'll probably keep that for a while and then sell it for a little profit.

The boat cost me $506 because when I showed up to pick it up I realized they were having a yard sale.  I couldn't pass up the cool old pair of orange skis.

Looks like you found a nice little gig fixing the Old Towns.

I bet the skis/ bindings are late 70's/ early 80s. The leashes on the rear binding is a clue; before brakes. I think Look bindings were acquired by Rossignol at some point, there's still newish ski bindings that have a similar design.

firefighter ontheside

I've always had Marker binding which don't look anything old school.
