Looking at a used 036 pro and i am wondering about future availability of replacement parts.

Local saw shop says stay clear of old Stihl's that start with a 0 because its getting tuff to get parts.

Is that the general Consensus these days?

Theres places that might have your parts. Dont solely go by the guy that fixed your saws word.

Parts are available if you are willing to search and wait, dealers are normally unwilling to go to the time and trouble. You might do better looking for something newer.

Lorenzo If we me I would pass unless the saw is really cheap. I have a 038 that I have kept around as it was the first new saw I had. I don't use it much and if it won't run or I had to wait on a part no big deal. My saws I use all the time are later model ones like the 461 and 261. With me when we cut wood I have two guys help me and the last thing I want is a old saw that is hard to keep running. I trade deer hunting rights for firewood making time. So I want to use that time to cut wood and not work on saws.

I don't seem to have trouble finding parts for just about anything .Regarding dealers they are not all the same and saying that I'll just stop .Opinions as usual vary .Some rely on dealer support for parts, repairs  etc and some do not .I'm of the later .As far as the saw in my opinion they are a good model .I own an 034 super which basically is an 036 .
