Well, yesterday a tropical storm came ashore in our area. Heavy rain almost all day long. TV says we got almost 6" of rain. Lots of flooded areas, north of me.

Today the sun is out and it just like it never happened. Here but all of the roadside drainage areas are full to the brim.

It's moved to the west side of our state.

85° here this afternoon. And bone dry, no mention of rain. See lots of balm, ash and red maple dropping leaves this week.

86°, but I think the heat is going to break Thursday evening. See lots of leaves falling today in the woods, real dry on this next block I'm at and lots of stones, so probably thin soil.

Thick dark clouds started to gather east of me around 3pm. Normally they stay there or head east. Sounds of distant thunder. Then about 4pm, cold breeze and it let loose with 1/2" hail. Took cover under my half roof.

Light wind from the east and I was getting pelted with the ricochet hail. Went on for about 20 minutes then several hours of rain.

I don't want to think about hail! It's not normal here and usually precedes a big mess of damage.

The weather here has been disgustingly nice for many weeks with just a bit of rain and temps up around 80 most days.
A Cooler trend is setting up for next week with a bunch of rain days forecast. But I am just focused on Saturday because it's my last scheduled show of the season and a nice clear fall day will go a long way toward helping have a successful day. The show I did 10 days ago should have been the same, but we got rain which kept the gate to about 40% of normal and a lousy day for me considering all the prep I put in and products rushed out for it.
This last one is 40 minutes west and a little north, where the temps run about 10° cooler than here because of the elevation change. 48 hours out and the forecast looks like a clear, sunny, warmish fall day with a high of about 72°.  I sure hope it's accurate.
 Time to get at it.

Good luck at the Saturday show, Tom.

70° here, but all day to get there. Found a hornet's nest by an old popple stump when thinning. They was a stinging and I kept on a swinging the saw and working my way across the face of the thinning toward my trail. Got maybe 4 or 5 burns, but I don't find their stings all that bad. They don't even swell. By tomorrow they will be itchy.  ffcheesy

That much rain would be a killer here, I can't imagine. That's hundred year flood conditions here.
Here the cooling trend is fully underway. High for today was 62° and it's been cool for 2 days. I am having trouble getting finishes to cure in the shop for several days now so this afternoon I started a smudge fire in the shop. I had a pile of chips and floor sweepings in front of the stove anyway that had been annoying me along with off cuts from the TS and other junk. I didn't put a single piece of firewood in, just junk. It gave me a chance to clean up a bit and even just burning up the little junk raised the temp in the shop to 70 fairly quick. Hopefully that dries it out a bit.
Tomorrow is supposed to a rain out, so maybe another short fire. We are entering the shoulder season again.

The hurricane did its damage.  Flooding, power outages.  I read this morning that all roads in North Caroline are closed due to flooding.  We didn't have any tree damage but our power was off one and half days.  Pray for the families who lost love ones.

Starting about 40 miles west of here in NC, there is catastrophic flood damage.

Most of the little town of Chimney Rock is IN Lake Lure, Asheville is isolated due to major road damage including Interstate 40 washed out near the Tennessee border, Boone has had terrible flooding, Banner Elk has folks stranded with only the possibility of helicopter rescue.

It is tragic and reminds me of what Hurricane Camille did to Virginia in 1969.

Prayers are needed for many from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and elsewhere who have been adversely impacted by this one.
