So the other day one of the guys who trucks for me said our local mill isn't buying any more pine and may be closing. I called the buyer and left a message but never heard back. I have sold pine to them for years and they are/ were a sizable operation.
Anybody else know about this?

Log-it-up

Not sure I've been cutting hardwood last couple years, I was going to cut some pine this spring but was told the mill near me called with no warning and pulled the plug had friends with 15-20 thousand feet sitting on the landing took a couple weeks for them to find a home for it

Bruno of NH

I just see that a mill 40 miles from me is closing at the end of the month.
I read in a Facebook group that some mills in NH are not taking white pine

SPF on the open market is down below $500.K there's a few mill around here that can survive at .45 cents a BF but not many.

Am I wrong again?
I thought mills did not buy pine between mid-April to mid-October.

I've never seen $500/th for the best pine you could cut for Irving up here. Never more than in the $4xx range. Just a few bucks difference in the top grade prices. A $1000/th, dream on.  ffcheesy ffcheesy

@SwampDonkey:
Am I correct in thinking you are talking Canadian currency?

"$500/th" a new terminology for "$500/Mbf" ??

$CDN yes, so that's 35% less money in $US.  Irving pays better in Maine for pine. Pine is worth more in Ontario as well. Wood price up here is based on trucking radius and not big money to start with. All Homedepot.ca white pine is supplied by Irving.

Not new term to me, been used for years. Means same thing to me.

At those prices I "estimate" it would cost more to harvest it than you will get.
Sale price minus trucking fees, minus harvesting expenses, minus federal taxes, minus state taxes, minus misc. expenses like doctor visits for stitches, casts for broken limbs etc., and you are working for nuttin.  Unless it is your exercise regiment I suggest leaving the equipment in the shop or garage and go on vacation.  In the mean time the trees might gain some volume.

Please advise on how I could buy 50% clear on four sides pine 24-30 inch EWP. Some smaller yet clear acceptable.

I can't handle large load. Could bring 16' trailer and pickup (F-350) flatbed dump to logging site for 10-12 sections.

Also looking for standard Vermont poplar.

Jericho-Underhill area.

Thanks

Find some loggers in your area and ask them. Big mills aren't buying until they saw through their winter stockpile, so this time of year you might get lucky enough that a logger will bother with your request.
Also thanks to tariff war our markets are totally chaotic.  Canadian markets were actually really helpful in our region to provide outlets for wood. Untill u.s. production can catch up and fill the Canadian hole that is very open right now prices will remain very low. Good time to buy wood as a small timer

Log-it-up

TBrown99- things are pretty slow in the area, things are still pretty wet, I would head toward Essex check in with Lamell lumber they might sell some round wood might be a little higher in price but it would be close to home, you could also check in with Weston pulpwood wood sales (there in Essex as well right on rt 15) they move a lot of wood they might be able to guide you to who might be cutting
