Lost a good man last week in Bedford PA.  He handfelled, son drove skidder, brother loaded and bucked and bought timber.  Great family.  Hand felling death on the  last tree, on the 1st day, of the last job the brothers were ever going to do.

Be safe out there!

I'm sorry to here it, words typed can't express how much that has to suck. Every few months you hear of someone somewhere not that far. A FF member got smashed the other day and lucky to be alive, surgery, not good, it could happen to any one of us.

The family was one of the key sources of help for us as we got going, from helping out trucking logs to giving insight into markets and introductions to buyers.

I will never be able to repay their kindness but we pass it on to others in need when we can.

This saddens me very greatly. To have spent one's working life doing dangerous work and coming through clean only to get caught on the last job is heartbreaking, truly.
My heart goes out to his family, and community because we have seen it here too and know what an impact it can have on everyone. Truly heartbreaking.

I can't like that post.  Prayers for him and his family.  That's just a sad, sad story.

That's awful sorry for the family. I have friends there I bet they knew him.

Man, these lessons are tough.  I have seen a few folks die a day after they finally retire, but this is worse.  We gotta live everyday like it is our last or the first.  Godspeed.

Very sorry to hear this.   My condolences to his family and friends.

Terrible to hear, my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends! I asked Yellow Hammer for his best advice on starting a milling operation... and he was very adamant about making log handling a priority, even more than sawing and milling. That, is where people get hurt, and killed. Once it is on the mill you are so much safer than getting the log there. I have no experience, I don't even have my mill yet... just quoting a respected sawyer?
Life should be a journey that only ends when you are 6 feet under. Go all in, never stop striving to improve. Never let anyone steal your joy!

Thoughts and prayers for his family.
