We have a very good customer who was looking at some of our live edged slabs today when he stopped by to pick up the final boards for his barndominium project in Florida.

He was curious what it would cost to ship a couple of slabs to his place in Montana and I suggested that someone on the Forestry Forum who mills in Montana may be able to provide the slabs for him.

His place is about 30 minutes from Bozeman.  If any of you are interested, message me and I'll pass your information along to him.

Cavey,

Be careful - you know he is going to be wanting live oak slabs and they are gonna be kinda hard to find up/out there. ffcheesy

I hope you can link him up with a fellow forumite and make both of them happy.

Believe it or not, he was looking at pine slabs today from a wolfy slash pine.  The logs made nice slabs, and I may check to see what it would take to truck a pallet of them to Montana, but I don't think it would be cheap.

Leave the trucking arrangement and payment up to the customer. To be picked up at your mill. just a thought.

I actually taped some lumber together with shipping tape and carried to to the UPS depot.  They measured length, width, and weight and away it went to Oklahoma.  That was back when I was sawing and selling so close to 20 years ago.

I shrink wrapped and sent a couple of 3" thick X 14" X 5' long boards a couple years ago. The UPS lady asked me what was in my package and I told her you can see it is wood.

Kist talk with your shipper and tell them what it is and they should be able to advise you on your options and costs.

You might also check with the Forum Transport options and see if any members can transport it. You might have to do it in a couple of legs with drop offs along the way. Good luck.

How big does he want and does he want circle sawn or band? I'm in the northwest corner of the state.

The pine slabs he was looking at are 24-26" wide, 2 1/2" thick and a little over 8' long.  I can put him in contact with you if you want, just message me your number and y'all can see if you can work something out.

The overlength charge alone for 8' to 12' is $200 for LTL.
Then they will figure the shipping charge.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.

There used to be a show on tv where independent drivers would bid on shipping loads like that. I know when I drove the big rig flatbed drivers would check an online posting board for loads brokers wanted shipped and what they paid. If you checked with hot-shot haulers (1 ton pickup pulling 5th wheel trailer), they might be able to add a small load like that on to a truck already heading north/west.

Yes that's the show, been years since it was on tv. Some of the drivers were more there for comedy than anything. :uhoh:
But a couple of them were pro's that knew how to haul just about anything.
