I have an idea for increasing the ease and accuracy of sharpening a chainsaw chain.   The 3 majors, Stihl, Husqvarna and Oregon pretty much all say the same thing which is this is not in their plans at this time.  They say they want new ideas and have forms to fill out and turn in.  Oregon says they don't take ideas from outside the company which seems like to their detriment.  I ask if anyone on this forum knows of someone inside one of these companies to get in contact with.

I only say this because I own lot of their products, but check with Greenworks. They seem to often come out with new products, so I suspect they might be more open to ideas and innovation, and being electric they may also want to try to have an edge over the more well known gas saw manufacturers. I've talked with their tech support before and they have actual humans that you can talk to, which seems rare now days.

Also Echo but I have no idea who supplies their chains.

You may also contact Tammy/Kevin at Logrite.  They are very innovative with new ideas and also may know whose "button to push".  Maybe even their own.

I would read up a lot on intellectual property rights before making such a move.   There should be book somewhere on the subject.  Remember, knowledge is power.

Spend $30K to hire a lawyer and get a patent. Now you have the right to sue when someone rips off your idea...Great if you have deep pockets and a full time lawyer on staff.

Disclose your idea without a patent and you are SOL, so sad, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Which is why I mentioned Logrite.  They are honest and already have the line and hooks in the water.
