Well,  i feel like I have had an escalation, but a call to the surgeon's office and they said this was normal. Excuse my yooper. But BullChit!

Today when I drink anything past a sip, like say tipping a class to take a couple swigs of water, I feel much of it go right into my sinus cavity, and when I tip my head back down it drains back into my mouth and and throat.

How the hell is that normal. "Take smaller sips" procede as instructed."  :uhoh:

How could this not lead to pneumonia? It goes in your nose and runs back in as you are breathing. I would have to be aspirating some of it. I'm scared to drink anything but water at this point.

Well, this all sounds terrible!

You were in surprisingly good spirits at the pig roast Jeff. You're a tough guy! Heal up man!

If you are aspirating you should be coughing your head off.  much of the stuff in your mouth could go down the airway, but there are cilia that act like little tails to whisk mucus up your airway to keep the lungs clean.  I am sure it is uncomfortable.  it may heal over on its own and if not get the stitch.  sinuses normally drain into your nose and mouth, middle ear into your throat.  Hang tough man.  is it better or worse with a straw?  can you pack gauze or something into the socket the tooth came out of?  just some thoughts.

can be hard to do but see if plugging your nose keeps it out of your sinuses.  I know there is that navage system but not goiing to help you.

I've had a few dental complications but nothing to compare with yours. I do wish you well and you can remain the champion of dental problems, I don't wish to compete.

Okay @doc henderson that was the best drink I had in 2 days. It went in my mouth and down my throat without chasing and coraling it.

Quick edit. I am uder strict orders to not even think about ising a straw although I feel there can't be any clot to lose.

Game changer on plugging my nose doc! Thankyou. Drinking was feeling like water boarding.

And that's why it's nice to have a Dr. around.  Good advice and good result!

Makes me wonder what the tooth is up with that oral surgeon group that they would not give me a hint like that. First I cant beleive they did not even warn me of this potential. I spent hours watching some oral surgery channels since. Doctors explaining the procedures and giving examples of xrays showing if you might be at risk. Like a scalloped root pattern, into the sinus floor, where the floor of the sinuses is very thin. I took a pic of my 3d xray that was up on the screen in from of the surgeon before they started. From what I know now, I was high risk and they not once mentioned it to me, other than my dentist saying if he did it I'd have problems, but eady for an oral surgeon.

looks like it is a three-layer bone graft.  I thought they could get a seal with a stitch and then let it heal by secondary intension (scar in).  a bone graft sounds worse than it is.  my son had to get one for a thin area in his jawbone where he was born without a permanent tooth and needed it to get an implant.

Sorry to hear this Jeff. Hope they come up with  a solution fast and you get to enjoy another summer in the UP. My wife  had a similar situation where the dentist wouldn't pull a tooth because of that. Over $4k later for a root canal and crown seems to have  fixed it. Surprised they didn't warn you upfront.
