Hey y'all!

First post, hope I'm in the right place! Photos below.

So I'm in the process of restoring some old timber framing tools, which I got a great deal on. After some research, I found out that my slick was made by Ohio Tool Co.. From what I've read, these slicks are laminated steel, and the amount on time it tool me to even begin flattening the sole makes me believe that.

However, I've hit a snag. The sole of the slick has some pretty extensive pitting, including some near the cutting edge. I'm not afraid to spend 200 years flattening the sole, however I am concerned about that laminated steel. Anyone have any idea how thick that hardened steel layer is? I would hate to go all the way through it.

Speaking of flattening the sole, I also had some questions on geometry. I've heard mixed things on how a slick should be shaped. Flat sole, bellied sole, straight edge, cambered edge, 25° bevel, 30°? I will primarily be using this in a timber framing context, with the eventual goal of processing logs into frame members entirely with hand tools.

Hope y'all will have some helpful insights, and please let me know if there's any other relevant info that I should share. Also, lemme know what y'all think of the handle I made :) Thanks!

you need to send photos to your gallery then upload to a thread or post.  @Jim_Rogers can probably help with your slick and any framing timber questions.

if you fill out your profile it will help us know more about you and better answer questions and potentially have members that are neighbors if that ends up being of help.

Ah gotcha, I was wondering how folks were uploading photos. Thanks for the tip, figuring that out now!
