When I was a kid, we had a Nov 11 Remembrance Day celebration in school. There was no holiday, but of course we really were not doing school things that day. I don't know what kids are told these days, so I can't offer any comment on that. The local memorial is attributed to two local daughters of a WWII vet. For years,  a tomb stone stood in front of the local school. Ain't no tomb stones on front lawns of schools anymore. And some of the schools are gone and the stone stands alone unnoticed in some instances, but not always. Some closed down school sites became bigger war memorials.

Thanks to all the service men and women who answered the call.

Had a crowd of 50 or more gather at the cemetery today to see the VFW Honor Guard. They did the usual 21 gun salute, 2 trumpeters playing call and answer taps, and a friend of mine tolled the church bell once for each veteran buried there. 
Thank You to all who served. Let us never forget what freedom cost.

My brother is on the VFW rifle team and had a color guard memorial service today.  He is not military, but they are so short he has participated for about 10 years.  The two in town today were canceled due to anticipated weather that was fairly mild.
