Planning this years road trip for Oregon, Washington and N Cali.
Flying into Seattle and going south from there for 2 weeks.

We have the first 2 nights in Astoria then figure to spend one night each in Newport, Coos Bay and Klamath Ca. giving us time in between to stop along the way for the coast sights.

Plan on working our way east to the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mtns then turn north back to Seattle.

Looking for suggestions for the return.

The Klamath Falls area looks good, Crater Lake is a must see. Sue Ann wants to send a couple days along the Columbia river in a cabin.
We will have 5-6 days to work north.

Any areas, cabins, places of interest?

Bill, I've been to the camp 18 restaurant in Seaside Oregon and it's definitely worth the Tripp trip. It's the site of an old Logging camp and is just a very, very cool place. As I recall, it's about halfway between Astoria and Portland.

Thanks Scott. On the list.
That day is also a stop at Tillamook.
I'm planning on about 175 miles a day down the coast to include stops.

It's a beautifull drive down the coast, I was out there in '92 so my memory is faded.

I do remember some WW2 Blimp hangers in Tillimook, and the sand dunes around Reedsport.

I didn't get to Crater lake, I was heading there in a rental car and I saw vehicles with about 1' snow so I turned around.

I will get out there again sometime.

I was out there about 15 years ago, on a rented Harley. Can't offer much more than has been said. I did ride the Harley through the middle of that Red Wood tree about 30 times. I had rode through it and came up on a group from Italy on the other side. All of the ladies had to take turns getting on the back of the bike and get their picture taken as they rode through the tree. This was in N. Cali. I think that tree fell over a few years ago.

Never made it to the Pacific Northwest, got to 40 states east of there in the truck. Definitely on my bucket list to get to Washington and Oregon someday, lots of good sights to see out there.

We landed in San Francisco to visit with my son stationed just south of there, in Monterey. Spent a few days with him seeing the half dome and such, then rented a bike and headed up the coast. Basically rode up the coast all the way to Coos Bay, OR. Did a few inland trips to Crater lake, and some other sites. Most of the ride was on the coast though. It was a great ride, for being on a rental. Riding the coast both north and south you don't really feel like you've seen it all. Lots of the scenery you can only see going one direction or the other, due to curves and bends. You will have the advantage of having more time to stop and enjoy the sites. It was a great ride and one I wouldn't mind doing again some day.  The red woods are awesome to see for sure. To me the Sequoias were more impressive, due to their diameter. Last I heard ole General Sherman was right at 40 ft in diameter. That's a good bit south of where you are going, but could be done.

We planned on venturing south to the Sequoias, Yosemite and Big Sur but decided we were spreading ourselves too thin so that will be another trip. Klamath, Ca will be the end of our southern run this trip.

Crater Lake area is planned for 2 days so we can look around some.
