A recent study was released about fuel prices in Canada and it has concluded that there is a lot of price gouging. But, I am glad to see the prices closer to the refinery have begun to be less than those far away for a change. But, this is due to regulation. Even when the price is set and a max rate established, there are still some stations adding a point or two above that rate and figure no one will say a thing. They are right.

Also, there is no shortage of fuel in Canada by a long shot. So why should a shortage in California affect my price in NB, for example? There is even a second refinery going up here. The particular company putting it up has rail, sea and road transport all integrated into several companies they own. They depend on no one to get stuff done.

A line I read from a magazine this winter read, 'They seem to be able to make money when everyone else is operating at a loss.'  ;D

My take is we should drill for the oil that we know is there....off coast of California, and deep in the Gulf.

But I doubt that this would make fuel any cheaper. :-\  California uses more fuel than any other state in the Nation, but only gets 5% of its oil from arab nations. California produces half of it's own oil, and the remainder comes from Alaska and Mexico, and California refines all of its own oil.  However, California continues to have the highest fuel prices in the nation. ???  Why ?because we keep buying it.  :-\

Some days ago I filled unleaded 95 octane for 1,32 euro per litre which makes 6 US$ per gallon plus minus a couple of cents.

You have dirt cheap fuel over there!

TW,
Correct me if I am wrong, but in Finland, you get free higher education, health care, job security, and a real high safety net that helps make crime as we in the States know it almost non existent, all on a "tax dollar" that is not too different than we pay in the USA....(Best I can figure comparing with my Finnish friends.)
(Not saying the USA should be come a Socialist country, but Finland with high gas prices does have perks for the average joe.)
I get a kick out of how speeding tickets in Finland are based on income the more you make the more you pay.. That seems fair to me.... ;D

Ten days ago, last time I left the yard with anything other than a 4-wheeler, reg gas was $2.69.9, this am went to the bank to visit some of my moldy money, reg gas is $3.09.9 to $3.11.9. This past weekend was also the opening weekend of fishing season, methinks there might be a connection. And the major tourist season won't start till after Memorial Day.

On Tuesday May 15, 2007 there is a nationwide "gas out" planned.

If you search the internet there are several sights that have information on  this.

They do not want people to buy fuel they say that the companies will lose millions of dollars.  It was on our local ABC channel tonight.

The only problem with that idea is we will fill the tank on Monday or Wednesday.  Big oil will not notice it but the stations will be hurt in other sales for sure.

We need to use less gas overall to show the big oil guys.  Then it will be cheaper for China. ::)

It only works if you stop driving for the day.  I don't fill up every day, so these "gas outs" are lost on the vast majority of people.  I filled up on Sunday, and will be good for 1 1/2 weeks.  Gas went up 6¢ on Monday to $2.95.

In case you missed it, April retail sales were down.  This is probably a result of gas prices.  People have less money to spend, due to fuel prices.  It happened the last time that fuel spiked in price.

I think they're just pushing to see how much it takes to kill the goose laying the golden eggs.   :D

The big oil companies are the only entities that have the resources (from us) to research alternative fuels. But where is the incentive since they are reaping (raping) huge profits from oil. We're stuck with what big oil provides until we can separate the water molecule and burn hydrogen. If some of you wizards can figure that one out you can be very wealthy or very dead. Until then, I'll be burning gas to Sawlex.

Hmmm.....
My latest costing of my home brewed bio diesel was 96cents per gallon (not including my time or electricity cost).  Sure am glad it is warm enough to burn it without worrying about gelling  8)

Yes we have all that but the stupid politicans are bysy breaking it down. No matter who we vote into parlament they all work hard to break down this wellfare system, once they are elected. Gallups show all the time that a majority wants to keep it but the politicans do not care what the people wants even if we have democracy.
Personally I am a firm believer in the Nordic form of moderated capitalism.

I remarked thay you have strangely cheap fuel, not that ours is expensive.

GF

I have always wondered if people have thought about how much fuel is being used daily in Iraq, Afgan, etc could this possibly be a large demand culprit?  I think our govt needs to look at its ownself to see how much more of a demand they have caused, it would be interesting to see the true results.

Kevin_H.

just had the off road diesel tank filled, $2.67 a gal.  I think regular diesel is somewhere around $2.89 at the pump... When the guy got done filling the tank, he said "ya shoulda called last week it was 6 cents a gallon cheaper", I told him he coulda left that bit of information out.

I ask if he could bring me some gas for the woodmizer, he said yes, but I was better off putting my tank on the truck and filling it at walmart... :-\

Well I drove past a station that was still the same price as earlier this morning and it was PACKED with cars!
Knew there was a jump, one phone call and I heard the news........... $3.49 for 89 octane unlead. :o
Haven't been that high here since Katrina!
We give them the "gas out" that really don't work and they spike the price.
Thing is, they were saying on the radio this moring that prices are expected to be around $4 by Memorial Day. >:( :'( :'( :'(

Don_Papenburg

That is interesting , I just filled up on off road and asked about gas 3.19 delivered It just went up to 3.29 in town  . Been years now since it was cheaper off the truck.  E85% was 2.58

GF, the military mainly uses diesel fuel and jet fuel, very little gasoline. Iraq is also providing a portion of that fuel, so I don't think they are the culprits...

It topped $1.30/L here. Other than going to work, I don't drive much anymore. I was planning a trip to the Okanagan this weekend but might need to re think that one.

Gas prices in San Francisco Tuesday were: $4.33 for regular, $4.43 for plus and $4.53 for their highest grade. :-\

It is a little cheaper up my way, we are about 3 hours east of SF so it is only a matter days before we see $4/gallon here . Then when it goes down to $3.29 in sept we will think it is a deal. :-\ ::)

I am sure that the Eastern Sierra and the Great Basin are near $5/ gallon, same with Death Valley. You really have no choice but  to fill up in these areas, cause you may not see another gas station for 200 or more miles.  move_it

Diesel around here has gone down to $2.76 gal.. 8) 8)  The regular stuff is still $3 or more a gal.  >:(  We use the dodge more than mine right now.  My chevy truck gets good mileage, but the dodge, which is diesel, gets better mileage... ;D ;D

Diesel has started it's slow climb in this part of the country.

Tom

Be thankful if it is climbing slowly.  It has us dancing around and dropping our drawers like a kid caught in a bed of Fire Ants.  >:(

Diesel was $2.54 last week in NW IN, was up to $2.65 same place yesterday.
We had about a 10 cent or so jump over last week here at home as well.

stonebroke

3.09$ a gal for regular in central NY.
