Not meant to be an insult, just my factual conclusion from the stories you share😂

A few years back I had some Cherry lumber thrown in on a deal. It was twisted all to you know what. Wife decided she  wanted some shelves for the front of the house for seasonal decoration.
So I built her a twisted set out of the cherry . Try it ,Its not as easy as you would think.

Need to varnish them again

even a spar urethane does not do well outside as a surface finish.  I have switched to oil-based stain/finish, so reapplication is not so hard for outdoor things.

It's been awful hot for the past few days but I wanted to do a little sawing so I rolled one of my 4' cherry logs on the mill and sawed it into 1" boards. It's kind of nice sawing short logs. Log had a little stress so had to be turned several times but wasn't a big deal on a short log. Got some nice boards. Hope they stay that way.

Doc, could you be more specific about that finish.  I have been using urethane spar varnish on red oak for a few years and not completely satisfied with it. It is for the rails on the flatbed of my truck.

Looking good, if you excluded the juvenile core you'll have some nice lumber.
Does anyone besides me love the smell of fresh cut cherry?

I am in the process of trying a variety.  so far,

I have had a nice application of Cabots oil.  since it soaks in, the wood can be spruced up with another application.

So far so good over fresh ERC but only time will tell.  ERC will gray, but if sprayed with even a garden hose, it pops the grain.  So, I am hoping a touch up, will revive the look.

I was cutting up some small half dead cherry just last night on the edge of the field.
I noticed the smell too.
Does that count?   ffcheesy

Monday I used some cherry to smoke some salmon, it came out delicious, and I really like the smell of cherry smoke.

Inhaling cherry saw dust can cause problems for some people. A few years ago my brothers wife walked over to watch me saw cherry and almost immediately her eyes swelled up and she had trouble breathing. She left right away and was ok a short time later.
When I'm sawing cherry if I'm not wearing a mask my nose will run.

That's interesting, it doesn't bother me. I do wear a mask when milling unless I'm just edging a few pieces.
