First Attempt at Posting Pics-- Another Whatzit

Well here we go guys/gals, it's finally time that I post my first pictures here on the forum.  I decided that I would do another whatzit as we all love guessing what the article may be. 




I have to thank Tom for helping me get into the photo posting.  He has been a great tutor.

I'll pass on that arm thing.  I won't be cranking that thing that much.  But I will definately be using it to broadcast grass and alfalfa seed this week.  Not really looking forward to it for my arms sake.  Will be seeding down about  10 acres as soon as we harvest some more of our own grass seed.  We have all the alfalfa seed we need too. 

Gotta figure out a system for aerial seeding from my ultralight chopper ??? ??? ???

10 acres is alot of land for a even broadcast with those , I use a grain drill with a grass seeder attachment but I would think that mounting that on a stand in the back of a pickup would work if you use a 5 gallon bucket above the canvas hopper .  Those cyclones are very nice indeed and I guess you could ride backwards on a quad runner and crank while someone drives .  Anything can work thats for sure     I like the chopper idea too  ;D

Watched a couple of guys around here use a horse. They started off with a 12 pack, then one sits in the saddle (holding the beer), the other one faced backwards and powered the seeder.

I think I saw the same two planting pine seedlings, they spent a lot of time gettin on and off the horse to use the planter.

In 1967, "they" built an 87 acre watershed lake on some property on which we had a long-term lease.  My Dad was lowest bidder to establish a seedbed and seed the surrounding acreage........about 75 acres.  Our smallest tractor was a "35" Massey.  He sat on the hood turning a "Cyclone" seeder and I drove; planted the whole thing in about 3 days;  it's a wonder his arm didn't fall off, but he was a product of the Depression;  they were tough.  Bought a Herd King 3-point hitch spreader about 2 years later.

thurlow did the same thing with my Dad. It was a 35 massey , he rigged up a seat on the back of the tractor and I drove, I think we pulled some harrows behind. It was one of those seeders but I don't recall how he used it because he only had one arm his left. He lost his right in a hunting accident when he was 19 .As a kid I never realized he was handicapped cause he could do anything that needed doing . He was a good guy and I still miss him.

I guessed seed spreader as well before reading the whole thread. I think there were a few around here in the old sheds and barns years ago. Great grandad had 2 of everything going on the farm.  ;D

Uncle always had a horse drawn sower and roller. He only used it once and it stayed in the barn for years. I think it ended up in Pa with the Amish via a bear hunter from the area. He was always giving stuff away to strangers.  :
