Well the 3 hp motor gave out last night on my 20" planer (didn't like all the hickory I was feeding it).  I did get a good deal on a 5 HP leeson that fits just fine.

Now the problem,  It runs the wrong way.  Everything says to hook it up according to the diagram on the motor, But there is no diagram. NONE, NOWHERE, and before you ask, I looked there too!  This is one where the leads get changed on the capacitors.  They are nicely marked with T1, T3, T7 etc.  But I need some idea which one goes with what to reverse the rotation.  If anyone has a diagram, I would be most appreciative if it was sent my way.  I don't want to wait till monday to start putting this thing back to work.

I checked with their web site, but Leeson does not have this model listed anywhere.  The motor is a Leeson P145K34FB148  Catalog # 7040501 ,  But if I had any diagram, I could probably figure it out.

Thanks

I've been told if a motor turns the wrong way to swap any two leads.  But I'd like to hear from someone qualified as I'm not (I just staid at a Holliday Inn Express one time).  :D

Note my motor numbers don't match yours...but it is a 5 HP 220V Leeson 1740 rpm so your on your own iffen it smokes...don't call me. :o

CCW rotation
(T1+T8) to hot
(T4+T5) to hot

CW rotation
(T1+T5) to hot
(T4+T8) to hot

Says rotation is looking at the lead end...what's that??

Bout the same as what Bibby said.

BTW, I bought my Leeson maybe 10 years ago to replace a planer motor...it's a beast...seems to put out more than 5 HP and no problems.  And I haven't been easy on it.

Bibbyman,

You're probably thinking about three phase motors. Which make life much easier though much more expensive! Swap any two of the three unless one of them is grounded and then you swap the two ungrounded leads.

Tom,

For single phase it depends on the exact type of motor you have. On some you have to change the position of the brushes and on most other you swap the two leads for the starting winding with respect to the two leads for the running winding. You may want to hire an electrician who knows single phase motors to get things working again. My guess is one of your motors was initially setup for CW and the other was CCW. It looks like Larry's explanation matches mine, but uses T connections vs my functional description.

Thanks Larry That is exactly what I needed.

Since they only brought two leads out to the connection box I was not sure which two were hot and with my luck I would have put the two hot leads together on one side of the capacitor.

The people on this forum are just dang fantastic.  Thank you all!!

Dyslexic again.  I read 3 hp as 3 ph.  :P
