Jeff, many alder leaf beetles or willow leaf beetles over your way? They're metalic green on alder and the grubs are bluish as I recall. They sure give them alders a hammering.

Kinda unique, a cone bearing broadleaf, always learning.

I looked it up and it's called a catkin, Don.   What do we have down here that produces catkins?

SwampDonkey

Here's another catkin producing broadleaf. I don't think it gets as far south as Fl or Tx though. Although, it's not too far to your north. ;)

So exactly what kind is it , Jeff ???

I think all we have around here is speckled alder. I heard that deer like to hide in clumps of them.

Jeff was lucky he never got consumed by the spotted-touch-me-not, climatus, or wild cuke vines when he was crawling around in that alder patch. ;D

Tom, I believe catkins are produced by cats, dogkins would be produced by dogs, etc.  All God's little chillen got kins.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The tree from which that branch came from in my post have caused a few loggers to curse when cutting them manually. You get a shower of millions of the seeds and bracts down your kneck when it falls away from the stump in the fall (season). ;D
