Chainsaw boots

Hi Folks,
I noticed the topic on chainsaw pants and it reminded me about boots. I have been considering buying a pair of chainsaw boots but I'm not sure I should do this. I wear chaps and although they get pretty hot I would not run the saw with out them.
I have been to some of the logging supplier web sites to see what they have. Many offer some high rubber type boots with kevlar but that is not what I prefer. I am looking for something that is like an ankle high woorkboot. I found someone who had some made by the same people who supply boots to the military. They had something like 7 layers of kevlar.
Ok I've rambled on enough. Anyone use these boots? Do you like them? Any info would be appreciated.

I have seen the boots you are talking about but never tried them, sorry. It is great that you are wearing chaps, probably the most important safety item to have on. I would highly recommend wearing a helmet also. Have seen alot of pictures of people with cuts to the head and neck that could have been prevented with a helmet. As far as footwear, I make sure that I have on steel toe boots. Pretty easy to hit your toe while limbing heavily branched trees. Happy cutting!!

I do wear a helmut when working with trees. Dropping them or limbing. When cutting firewood I pass on the helmet.
I have also found the helmet a must wear item when running the brush chipper. I have been whacked on the helmet several times as the branch gets pulled quickly into the chipper. At first glance the chipper doesn't seem as dangerous as the chainsaw but experience has taught me to be very careful when feeding it.

Mike, the kevlar boots you are talking about, are they black and made by Matterhorn? I know they make boots with 7 layers of kevlar in them. I have worn that style of boots from them in the military but not with kevlar. warm, comfortable, and they will last.

Please provide more information on those boots you have found (like where to get them). I have been looking on and off for a pair of cut resistant boots since whitepe got caught on the front of his ankle with his saw about a year ago. The saw sliced through his leather boot like it was nothing. I have been looking at logging boots but it doesn't appear that the normal logging boots have kevlar.

I usually wear chaps but they don't protect the ankle. :-/

I also need to get a helmet. I like the idea of the all in one protection. I don't really need the hard-hat, but how else are you going to tie it all together. I was hoping to win the Christmas prize, but that is normally my luck. :D :D :D

Yes the boots I was thinking of are the Matterhorn boots. I just couldn't remember the name yesterday...must be old age starting to set in or something.
Sherrill was the place I first saw them but Rob is correct New England Shoe has them at a better price. Heck they even have my size (7) which is usually an issue.

I much appreciate the feedback on these. Due to the cost I want to make sure they are worth the investment. From what Matt is saying sounds like they would be a good boot & last a long time.

I agree with Rick in that I don't always feel I need a helmut but having the ear muffs & face shield in one package is convenient.

Here is another site you can try they carry the same boot and they carry a few other pair that dont have as many layers of Kevlar but they are cheaper than the Matterhorn boot.
