Trappers Rendezvous
« on: January 15, 2020, 09:49:04 PM »
getting ready to camp this weekend.  a few days of organizing and preparing.  only about 30 miles from us, but people come from all the surrounding states.  often 6 to 8 thousand scouts and leaders.  cold weather camping and trading.  so far I have been sprucing up the wood stove that goes in the mess/warming tent.  got a little rusty over the winter.

gathering fuel.  fill water tank, load trailer with wood and gateway ect.  I will post a few more pics as I prepare.  army tent set up Friday.

I remember this from last year, you guys live large in Kansas!
Oscar 328 Band Mill, Husky 450, 372 (Clone), Mule 3010, and too many hand tools. :) I mill for fun and my mental health. NYLT Certified.

I ain't the woodcutter, but I can cut wood 'til the woodcutter gets here. OK, maybe I am the woodcutter now.
I can work with wood, but I am NOT a Woodworker

It is good for the boys.  learn to keep your gear dry and shake hands on a deal, be honest if something is broken.  the lore is that a kid started with a rock, and went home with a laptop computer!   :o  .  to make it interesting for me, my partner at work texted about 1 am that he was sick.  so working instead of prepping today.  will get some pics as we progress.  get the spoiled kids out in the weather, and helps them appreciate the roof over there heads when they return home.

Troop 1 is at trappers.  I did my part and got tent and gateway set up.  plenty of lantern fuel, gas,  diesel fuel, wood, ect.  already 5 adults for about 10 kids.  several out due to illness, weather.  My son is 18 and an eagle so considered an adult, and is not going.  so I am home in front of my own fire.

good nasty icy weather to build a little character in the boys, and bring out the best in the grown ups!

got the wood stove put back together.  flipped the fiberglass seal over and good as new.  everything cleaned and painted, fired to season the paint, keeping the kids warm.

tent going up.  we have another section, but with the cancellations, only needed the 2 sections.

ERC gateway made a few years back.  we won first place last year.  14 feet tall and 14 feet wide.
