The soil must be deficient in Forumrillium.  That is a micro-nutrient found in forestry scrapple.  The thing to do is print off a copy of this subject, shred it, and use it to fertilize the soil around the pvc plants.  That should do it.

Forumrillium is kinda hard to come by around these parts.  There just ain't no forestry scrapple to be had.  We just find a market for the ¾" stuff and let some other schmuck worry about the fat pipes. ;D

Mr. Hootie ain't takin' too good care of his stake forest.  It's all grown up wit weeds. :-\

A clear sign of a deficiency of Forumrillium.  If that was applied in the proper amount, the crop of tomato stakes would surely out-compete those weeds...........

The stakes are still in the lead, but losing ground rapidly.  I'm not sure we can muster enough Forumrillium to salvage the forest, at this point. :'(

Those ain't weed's, He's a progressive agriculturalist {farmer} and is using a BMP called "Companion Cropping" !!! He's one fartsmeller getting every nickle he can earn from his dirt Hey !! Wait till you see the harvest,... some of them companions might look quite good !!!

DanG

Well, here's what happens when ya sit in front of the air conditioner too much.  The stakes have been completely taken over with the weeds.  Ya can hardly even see the stakes anymore. :-\

They've had to bring in a bunch of short, smelly people from out of town to try and keep the weeds from going to seed.

I heard that Monsanto is working on a Roundup Ready stake.  Maybe that will make things better. ::)

When it doesn't rain, those tomato stakes don't have a chance against those weeds :).  At this stage, I don't believe that even Forumrillium will do them any good ;).

The stakes have been harvested and the weeds cleared out.  This is what the forest looked like as of last weekend.

I thought the whole job looked pretty good for a clearcut. :)  They've moved across the highway to replant.  I guess they're trying to get away from that weed infestation.  The new crop is looking pretty good.

Looks like they've planted a bit thicker, probably in an effort to control the undergrowth.  I walked up close for a better look, and...

...oops, them DanG weeds are back!! >:(  They ain't very tall yet, but if they don't watch it they'll take the place over.  I guess I'll have to go up there and show'em how it's done.  I been growing stakes for years, and I ain't never had weed problems like they's got. :) 8)

Mr Mom

Dang...How long is your growing season down there??

Thanks Alot Mr Mom

DanG

They plant in mid-March for the June harvest, then again in July and harvest those in Oct/Nov.  Occasionally they'll still be picking in early December.  First heavy frost will put a stop to it.

I just discovered this thread, so I'm sorry that I didn't pipe in here earlier.

I have some bad news for you Northern TS Farmers.  The guy that owns the mess of acreage behind my place has been growing these Tomato Stakes for years now right here in West Central Florida.

The really neat thing that they have integrated into the process is that; when the stakes are at their optimum height and the roots are falling off, a Tomato Plant starts growing right up beside each and every stake.  Now I know growing these up north was a great business, but I'm afraid you guys might have to find something else to grow.  These Florida farmers are getting pretty smart.

bob...

DanG

They may not be as smart as they think they are, Speed.  They've gotten so good at growing stakes, the market has dropped out from under them.  At the auction t'other day, 350,000 stakes went for $300.  Ya can't even buy the seed fer that!
