Custom Wood Cutting

Hello, I'm Bill. 58, bought my Bellsaw in 88, in 95 took it to Oregon, near Bend Or. for 9 years. Quickly learned that I like my spotted owls fried, the junipers made awesome lumber, lots of taper and full of sand. In 04 brought my mill back to upstate N.Y. It's powered by a 6 cyl. Wacashaw gas engine. A fantastic power plant. Last year I bought a fella out. Got his mill that he built from 3 other mills. Hydraulic feed, cant flipper, A 24" planer, an edger, trim saw, log truck, drag saw, and shingle mill. It's suppose to be able to saw 500' per hour. The log deck came with new mill. A real piece of art it is. (8 tons of weight) A Vegas wood gasification boiler to supply heat for a kiln. The first thing I'd tell a new sawyer is welcome. And that safety violations or short cuts will cost ya. I wouldn't change my occupation for all the tea in china! Ash and hemlock are my favorite woods. Black locust next. Anyways I'm new here. Thanx for a few min. of your time.

I'm 64.  Bought a LT10 three months after major back surgery and it sat on a pallet on the truck for a month while I recuperated.  That was three years ago.  People said I was an idiot for buying a mill with a bad back.  I just tell them I was an idiot way before I bought a mill. I sure have learned a lot and will not ever learn it all.  What you find inside an old, ugly, nasty log still amazes me.

Been sawing lumber for about 15 years, on wood projects. Bought my mill last October and been sawing logs for almost a year. Love it so much, I have to make myself go back in the shop for the "finish" work. I just drew my first SS check, and wondering what new toy I can buy for my mill. Keep on Sawing!!!     Andy

How old, when?  The thread was started in 2007, when I was 51.  If you want to know how old I am now, YOU do the math.  I have been sawing for 12 years, hope to get it right one of these days.  Worked around circle mills years before that, though. The Norwood mill suites me fine, but I'll probably add some hydraulics to it one of these days.

I'am 67 now built my first circular mill back in the eighties. When you get old you have to work smarter not harder. You learn leverage what you can and shouldn't do.Logs were made round so they would roll.Experiance and caution is a gift but only if you use it. Frank C.

50 and I don't care who knows it...feel like I'm 30, and that says a lot cuz most of my 40s I probably felt 60!  Had my Norwood for just a few months now.  30 years ago sawed on a vw bug powered (yes, the whole bug sat there as I recall) circle mill for a few months.  So I guess I 'm pushing the 1 YEAR MARK sawyer-ing.
