I have used silt screen as if it were Shade Dri - as a wrap around white oak to prevent to rapid drying.
It worked, but probably doesn't have the UV endurance of the real deal.  My concern was checking, so, as far as that need goes, it works.

What is your goal?

to reduce checking.  there is a neat video on the fine woodworking site :  http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/Materials/MaterialsArticle.aspx?id=29500

i was thinking that I should set up a few screens like he has done with shade cloth of some sort to reduce sun stains and help keep the weather off of the stacks.

You don't say how much you need to cover. There was a fellow on here that built a few roofs over his lumber to keep the sun and weather.Just put 4 posts in the ground than put a roof on top.Seems like he had 2-3 of these.Seems like they was only 6X16 or something like that.Probaly would still need the shade cloth.I'm just suggesting about greenhouse shade cloth.May want to check the price on that too.

i want something to drape around the stacks, particularly for white oak.  It's really not feasable for me to put a roof over the stack on poles.

I made a gable like frame { light weight], covered it with awning type material. Wraped shade dri material around frame to hang down below stack. Attach top and bottom toprotect stack. Shadedri should not touch lumber.  If you buy shadri it comes with grommets. Beware, they cut width from wide material, you may end up paying for whats left over. Homer

I will throw out another possibility to you.

There is an animal called "construction entrance fabric" which is a lot like the products we are discussing.
I priced a roll once at a Home D. store.  Now I can't find it anymore, but that's no big deal.  After all, the
day I asked for a price, the "associate" not only didn't know the price, he didn't know what it was, nor where
it was in the store.   I think that enough to handle several lumber piles was $130 (?).
