DR_BUCK,
I had the same issue.  I had 4 out of 5 Blitz brand 5 gallon gas jugs where the vent cap had broken off and had been lost.  So I got the can model number off of the jugs, then found their website and contacted them to find out how to buy replacement vent caps.  They asked how many I needed, my address, and said they'll be in the mail free of charge.  A few days later I got them.  Awesome.  It was a poor design as the plastic loop would fatigue and break eventually.  I'm happy that they'll supply free replacements.
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!
