Transplanting Trees in March
« on: March 25, 2009, 01:16:10 PM »
I posted this originally in the wrong location......

For those that are living in Southern Ontario or Northern US, is it okay to transplant trees in March?  I did so the other day and the ground of course was saturated but no frost however the last couple of days it has been very cold.  Is this to much of a shock for the tree?

thanks for any input.

I would say no, not too shocking. ;)  We can't plant them quite so early in northwestern NB. But i have planted hundreds of trees in mid April with frost still in the ground. All the spruce trees I have been filling in on an old barn site have been planted as soon as the snow is gone. Last couple of times frost has been within a foot of the top of the soil. The spruce trees have all lived, not a single dead one. They are 2-3 feet tall. I made sure I had good soft soil planted around the roots.
Move'n on.
