I'm looking at a Timberjack 608s that is currently set up for a hotsaw (Koering/Waterous 22in)

have been thinking of swapping it out for an intermitent sawhead with 360 rotation. I know quadco makes one (2200 is the one I know of) anyone else know of a intermitment head with full rotation? Want to be able to pre-process/limb/sort with the head....

anyone know what is involved in switching over valving/pumps to go from hotsaw to intermitent? The joysticks on the 608 have 4 thumb functions and one trigger function each- so that shouldn't be a problem...

thanks for any input..

Hey E, sounds like you need a CTL processor. Come on, take the plunge and buy one. :D

I've seen the processors produce in some steep country up here, so it would be good for that billy goat terrain you have down there.

I have asked numerous contractors up here about the intermittent heads, but have yet to find one with any experience using them. I was hoping to get you some feedback, but no luck so far.

Ed- I have actually thought about a CTL head- just using it to fell in the woods- then skidding bunches out, then delimbing on the landing with it...

another option is a bar saw head with rotation...Oliver Stores in Lancaster has one- might take a look.  Would certainly be less weight.

You guys moving wood with all the rain?

Production has been a little slow this summer. Rain every day or night and loamy soils don't add up to high production, but the last couple of weeks have been better.

At the NERCOFE meeting this spring in Orono there was a speaker who showed us how his company uses a processor on the landing to delimb and buck logs. The system seemed to work for them. I'd have to look at my notes to get his name and company, but he was an experienced woods boss with decades of experience.

Eric , I would imagine you know Jake and Jack. Talk to them about the intermittent head Im sure they could give you some info . I know they had one with full rotation on a Timbco a while back , not sure if they still have it or switched over.

Personally I would stay away from a barsaw head , unless your cutting alot of bigger stems. They work good for bigger wood , but if you have to cut in skid trails or deal with any smaller regen / whips you'll be throwing chains left and right .

My opinion , I would stick with a hotsaw with 360 rotation. I've spent my share of time in TJ 608's and 425/445 Timbcos with hotsaws , and limbed to a certain extent with them , but never had the full rotation.

That is one thing I wish I had , could have used it on many occasions ..

Speaking of which , anyone know any contractors in the NH or new england area looking for a buncher op ?? by any chance , would be nice to get back into the woods. I miss it

yes- I know Jack and Jake quite well...would love to have their set up (quadco interm. 2800 with 360)  on my 608s, but their head cost new probably twice what my whole machine cost used.  Having said that, I would be willing to spend the right $$ on the right head...I have also been warned about regen cutting with a barsaw- sounds like the 3/4 is better than 404 chain- but neither is very good.

so far I can live with the hotsaw as I've mostly been cutting lowgrade- probably keep hand cutting the nice ones till I get better with the hotsaw...

who are you working for now?

cheers-
