you ms460 owners out there,i just picked a new one up.what size of bar do these things like. my go to saw is an ms361 20&25",and it handles those pretty well.we cut a lot red oak, walnut, elm, & cherry. to be honest,28" will probably be long enough for me,i think it should play with that. i run all full skip chains on my bigger saws. any input will be appreciated, thanks

Unless the oiler cannot pump enough, I would think a 460 could comfortably go up to 36" with full skip.  (even Stihl says 32")

If your 361 will do the 25" work, why stop at 28" on the 460?

Felling aside (of course), you never know when you may be faced with bucking some larger 30"+ stuff.  Nice to be prepared for it.

As always, it depends on what you need.  If the 460 will need to be used simultaneously with the 361 in the same sized wood, that big bar may not be the right choice.

046/460's out here in the land of the big softwoods usually have a 32" bar on them... But a 36" bar is not uncommon.

I have used a 36" on mine pretty often, and it will do fine. I use a 28" a lot, easier to sharpen and cheaper to run, and it really tears it up then. I'm sure you'll be pretty happy with whatever you need in that size range.

Replacing the standard  oil pump piston #1128 647 0606 (Stroke0.8)  with #1128 647 0602 (Stroke 1.1),   and the counterbolt #1128 647 4806 with #1128 647 4803,
will increase the oil feed rate for bigger guidebars.
But, with adjustment set to maximum you will run out of oil before you run out of fuel.
But, this change of 2 parts will give you more assured lubrication from 16" bars upwards.
You just need to limit between low and  'E' for smaller bars.Set between E and maximum when using longer bars and keep a watch on the oil level.
