I am 32 years old and am trying again this year to grow a beard.  :D. For deer season just for fun. Its been 2 weeks and my question is how long does it take for it to stop itching. I havent been able to before cause of lack of hair growth. And the fact that it sarted to itch so bad. I am going to try and tough it out this year. If i can last. ;D The good part of not growing as fast is i dont have to shave as much as most fellers do.

ScottAR

Take some rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball and rub it in.
It will burn some but the itching will lessen greatly.
Hold your nose during this process.   ;)

I haven't shaved in at least ten years...  Just mow it down
every few weeks.  Easy upkeep...

My beard grows pretty fast and I've tried to put one on the last 2 winters.  However, about a week in, it starts itching real bad and I don't like how it feels on my face.  So I shave it all off and breath a huge sigh of relief.  :)  Sure is nice to have a beard at -50 degrees, though.  Nothing else warmer for your face.

Well Scottar i know to look for a feller with a beard if i ever make it down your work.

Then, when you get used to it it'll probably itch when you shave it off. :D My whiskers seem to grow 1/16" a day, sure don't take long to look scruffy. ;D

I guess you fellas couldn't stand heavy wool long johns then eh? :D

I last shaved July 3rd 1975, the day before uncle sam said I could go home. I don't recall it itiching, but may have just forgotten. I had to promise my wife before we got married that I would never shave, she had seen old pictures and said that did not work for her. (sad truth is "I be ugly")  :D Being able to grow a full beard was my constalation for missing out in the looks department.  ::)
Old doesn't bother me, its the ugly that's a real bummer.

Your almost there. I grow a beard every year for hunting season & it's usually about 3 weeks before it stops itching.

My face hasn't been seen since 1982.  I don't think we want to look now. :o :D

I do the same as Scott. Never really shave just mow it off when it gets long enough to bug me in the summer. During winter I shave it when the guy looking back at me in the mirror is unrecognizable.  :D

I go back & forth a lot, at least 2 or 3 times a year.   mine usually only takes a few days to stop itching if at all itching.  I hate shaving as my beard/hair grows very fast...   In military I had to shave 2 times a day to keep from getting yelled at/in trouble for NOT shaving :(  :D   like others after I got out it grew in and most of the time I have one.   last year though I took an office job which I had to go back to shaving often.   winter is a relief as I can grow in a beard and no one seems to notice.   it is back at the moment and will be trimmed quite often to keep it looking good.

Believe it or not, I am currently growing. It's finally getting thick. I haven't had trouble with it itching though, I do trim it every week or so to get rid of those extra-long stray hairs.

I usally grow a Nathan Bedford Forrest style beard in the winter but it's gotta go in the summer. I can't stand the itching on my neck with a full beard, It doesn't really itch on my face. My girlfriend hates it when I shave it off in the spring. (maybe I is ugly like the treefarmer)   :(  :D

I started mine 2 summers ago while i was working on a backcountry trail crew.  I didn't feel like shaving off a weeks growth every weekend, so I let it go, and I havent shaved since then.  I got alot of funny looks my senior year of basketball and baseball though, guess I looked a little old ::).  I honestly dont remember how long it took for the itching to go away though.

tyb, celliot, that is awesome.  My beard wasn't near thick enough at that age but if it had been, I soooo would have grown one out just for the funny looks.  ;D  smiley_christmas  Hmmmm.  We need a bearded smiley w/o the santa hat.

celliott

Yeah, I always enjoyed the comments.
A word of advice though, if you are new to growing a beard- stay away from peanut butter and marshmallow smores! :D

On my "Forestry Display" thread you notice that I now have whiskers.  I really can't grow a beard, so I just quit shaving every year on August 15th.  I'll cut it off when I get back from Colorado around the end of October.

The itching ends in about 2 weeks when the whisker "ends" turn away from your skin...... :D

I can't remember how long the itching lasts.

Last time I tried to grow a beard was in December 1972. It looked pretty scruffy. Still does ;D.
