If you remember a previous thread I told you of a box of woodmizer .045" double hards and how they were doing with me sharpening and setting them.  I have been trying to find the time to check on the footage they have added till now but haven't yet gotten to it.  I haven't really cut many wacks of wood this year due to ton problems that i didn't burden you with, but all but one of the blades are still with me and they have at least 5 more sharpenings.  I also bought a new box of .045" and have used 9 of them only once with no sharpenings on them yet.  I will add the link to the previous post and go look at my numbers to give you a better up date.

So here are the numbers.  On the 12 blades left I cut 12,474 more board feet (8800 soft and rest hard) and I have not set them since the last post.  Admittidley they are getting a little ragged on pine thought they still did nice today on red oak without another setting.  I sharpenened them all yesterday so will set them on the next pass through the sharpener.  So lets see that makes 41,679 feet on lets say 12.5 blades for and average of 3334 feet per blade or at the $350 cost .00840 per bd ft cut.  That makes you think about having your own sharpener doesn't it.

Now for the new box.  I have only used 10 of them, mostly on customers jobs.  I refuse to sharpen them untill I put the new grinding wheel on the sharpener.  I bought the disk like a year ago but am still milking the old one as it is really good at hitting the front back and gullets of the old box of blades.  They cut 5796 bd ft (2500 soft) for and average of over 500 ft per sharpen ( new that is) at the price of $360 that is around 6 cents per foot but they have lotsa life to go.

Hope this help those of you considering sharpening your own blades.
