Log clamp spacer

I'm not familiar with other brands of mills, but I do know that a WM log clamp will only travel so far.  You can always grab 2X4 or something.....but sometimes nothing is available.  

I carry an Oak 1X2.5 with me, but they ended up missing or in the sticker/slab pile.  I finally painted both ends red.

I used to do that, now I just turn the head sideways

if it's really nice stuff, I'll dig a block out of the slab pile to protect the wood.

I tried that.

I used to have a 4' 2x2 that I'd toss under the mill just by the clamp. That worked great until someone would "help" me by cleaning up under the mill. So one day I painted one end red. That just made it easier for the "helpers" to find the Dang thing :(.

Now that I don't have any "help", it's not a problem.
