@thetrailboss great topic and surely some very interesting stuff.
Do you re-build these things?
I don't stray to far from this site and Woodbarter, but am interested in the history of it.

I cound not PM back to message @Mooseherder , Sorry I honestly did not read the rules about posting a link to my FB Steam Donkey page,  I was just frustrated that this forum has over 20,000 members and I could not spark any historical interest on the subject of locating, photographing, rescuing and preserving abandoned Steam Donkeys from a forum dedicated solely to forestry business

Jeff

Not nearly as much as we were frustrated with someone with virtually no posts coming on and making a post like you did that had to be removed. Not only for the trolling links but for the finger you poked in the forums eye in that post.  I checked out your facebook page. It's pretty much just you posting photos and a few friends liking them.  Very little if any content there from anyone other than you.  You could have been doing that here and would have got all kinds of feed back and interest.  We are not in the business of promoting your facebook page or all of the other places you cared to mention in your condemnation of how your topic was received here.

Try posting some content here, that is how it works. It will be well received.  We not only have over 20,000 registered members. We have over a quarter million unique visitors every month and up to ten million page views.

Well said, I well just go back to my measly lil group page and share my interest, info and photos with my puny 100 members, and sense I frustrated you so much your welcome to delete my membership

Jeff

Maybe I should put your original post back jabbing the Forum and let the members have at you? >:(

And all of them are seeing how you react when you break a rule along with condemning the forum on which you were allowed to post. Then when told about the rule violations in private, how you publicly come back to stamp your feet.

Really too bad he could not have been more mature about it. He has a fascinating hobby.

The poke in the eye came early morning critizing us for not participating in a 4 year old thread.  I wasn't going to make a big deal about this but there's always more to the story than you may care to know.  And when you open the link, your greeted by 4 beautiful young ladies in short shorts aimed at encouraging you to like or join.  Yup, I like short shorts also but pathetic really, and even boasting that was your motive in the comments section when someone approved.  The facebook link was the least of your issues.  You just might not get it yet.  The fact you're still here speaks volumes.  If you would like to start over we are forgiving.

I have seen multiple frames and deteriorating redwood sleds in the woods here in Humboldt County, but I haven't ever seen an intact one. I know there are a couple out there on the land that I work, I just haven't visited the sites personally. Scotia CA has a very nice donkey right in town across from the Humboldt Redwood Company's office though if you were in the area.

Ha, I guess I missed part of this thread...

@thetrailboss I did go to your FB group page and you have some interesting pics.
Something I noticed right off the bat though was a statement by you I would have to guess stating something to the point of, "We aren't looking for armchair members" and I think it went on to say you only want folks wanting to go wander through the weeds with you, or something to that effect. I read about things out of interest, not because I have any plans doing them.
Here on the Forestry Forum every question I've asked was answered with respect by folks just trying to help one another out.
You may just take a look at that, it could sure help you out a bit.

Looks like a fun hobby, would have to be in better shape than me to find the good ones as I'm sure anything close to the roads would be scraped by now. I would think any that were left on the dry side of California, Oregon, Washington or Idaho and Western Montana would still be in good shape, but would be left in a deep canyon or it would have been pulled out. I missed the face book link, but it could be because I don't have face book. PM me if I can see it without joining face book.

I am a little late to the party here, not sure what the problem was with the original poster: thetrailboss, but if anyone is interested, there is old steam donkey up on top of a hill where I live. I may take a hike up there soon and take some pictures.

That would be great. We'd enjoy seeing them.

Thanks, when the weather's better I will head up there. Last time I was in that area was about 14 years ago when it was being logged.
