I love it when I see someone build something from the very beginning to the end.  The very beginning is starting with a tree and creating from there.  I also like the pictorial and especially liked the way Magicman loaded the logs onto his trailor. He's a genious I tell ya! 8)

I have been back to sawing for the Cabin the past few days.  Our initial plan for wall paneling was barn lumber but due to 75+ years of weather, powder post beetles, and termites, that plan had to be scrapped.

My preference now would have been Poplar, but my trees are beyond felling and skidding due to the wet conditions between the trees and stable ground.  A customer called with three beetle killed SYP trees.  He had no use for them but offered them to me if I had a need.  Well yes.  A skidder was even available to load the logs.

Parbuckling (crosshauling) the first log onto the trailer.

The next ones were easy.

Just pick them up and set them on the trailer.

Our wall paneling is sawed and ready for the kiln.

The trees were sawn into 1X8, 1X10, & 1X12 lumber which will now become our wall paneling.  I have a Bosch router & table and just ordered a T&G bit.  I'll report here how my first attempt an T&G works out.   I may even get good at it and T&G the flooring.   :)  I don't know about that, because most of it is 20' long.   :-\

DanG MM, by the time you get that lumber dried and put up, you could have sawed a few more boards and built yourself a solar kiln. You have an ideal spot for one

::)  I know, but this is really the first time that I have needed lumber dried.

There is much that I need to do, even more that I want to do, and even less that I can do.

Wow, where did that come from??  The heart I guess.  I need to copy that to my profile.   ;D

MM, that quote made it into my list of favorites.  8)  When I worked in the corporate world I used to write down quotes that came out people's mouths that were under stress.  I've got some really funny and twisted quotes somewhere in a box.

Thanks Charlie, and with your approval I added it to my profile, but I removed something that has always been there that was really an admonishment to our younger folks. "Before you die......take time to live".

I think that this applies directly to me as it came from my heart and reflects how I personally feel.   :)

Nice work, MM.  Are you going to cut tongue and grooves into that wall paneling, do some sort of overlapping install, or what?

Magicman

Yes, T&G is the game plan, but no V-groove.  With the flooring the plan is for a slight V-groove.  But my our plans have changed so many times during this project that only time will tell what the final will be.

Warbird, the T&G router bits came today.  I am still waiting for the kiln guy to return my call so it's no way of telling how long it will be before I can actually use them.

Niiiiice!  Hope you've got a good router table setup.  In my very limited experience, I've found those long long cuts can get a bit...  interesting.

Magicman

I am sure that I will set the fence and make at least two passes per side.  That is what I am thinking anyway.

I will deliver that load of wall paneling lumber to the kiln tomorrow.  He said that it should be ready in about three weeks.

With saw jobs and a clock that I am trying to build, this monkey is jumping.

Dodgy Loner

When I do T&G, I always make two passes when routing the tongue, but only one pass when routing the groove, since it removes half as much material.

I hauled my load of lumber to Sumrall this morning to the kiln and the first thing that Mr. Munn wanted to know was "If I would sell it to him?"  Do what !!!

He has dried and molded many Mbf of my lumber, but for other customers.  He made the old man proud.

He said that my lumber should be ready in about three weeks.

The kiln guy called this afternoon.  My lumber is ready, so I will go and get it tomorrow and haul it to the Cabin.  Maybe now, I can make some more progress on the Addition.

You can't work on the cabin, you have too much sawing to do  :D.

The kiln owner said that he had my lumber down to 8% by his meter.  Much to his surprise, I whipped mine out and sure enough, 8%.   ;)   I unloaded it inside of the Cabin Addition this afternoon.  It will acclimate a bit before I get to milling it for my wall paneling.

I will stand it up and uniformly edge it all again, plane one side, T&G, and pickle stain it before it goes up.

I bet that it will acclimate between 9.5% to 10.5 %.  Check it and let me know as it will be a good data point.  Data is good.

In God we trust, all others bring data  :).
