Hi Magic.

I can relate to too little time. I admire perseverance. Good job on the addition!

(I hope to one day be able to present a detailed post on my barn project from start to finish...tieing all my old posts together. But that'll have to wait till significant progress is made. The barn...which is now no longer a barn...has morphed into a storage/music/recreation room!)

Right now, I am ready for my project to morph into what it is supposed to be.  The phone keeps ringing and saw jobs keep coming in.  Got another today.  ERC.

I was able to spend three days on the Addition.  I finished the ceiling and started on the wall paneling.

WDH, I am seeing 9-10% MC in my dried lumber after a week.

The planing is going nicely, but the T&G took some experimenting.  Since I do not have an infeed/outfeed table setup, the small router table did not work.  No way could I keep the lumber level and consistent.  The answer was laying the boards on the sawhorses and using the router portable.  This worked nicely and I am getting consistent joints.  Since SYP is relatively soft, I am also able to make one pass with either the tongue or the groove bit.  Just go slow and steady.

I finished ½ of the end wall and got the wainscot portion of another done.  Since the room has stacks of lumber, I am having to work different walls as I move and use stacks.  I may even have to put some flooring down so I can get to the front wall.

Yes, please continue with the pictures and progress, I really like the view in that last picture, is that a porch?

Magicman

Saw jobs have me busy again.  I'm doing what I gotta do instead of what I wanna do.

Yes, that is the porch on the shop/utility building behind the Cabin.  This picture was actually taken from the Cabin of the rain, but you get the idea of where it is.

This was taken of the Daffodils but you see the Cabin up the hill with the shop on the left.

Beautiful place you have there. We'll have to get together and show it to me some time.

I have a pc. of property here at home on the river and hope to build a cabin one day.
Wife says yep you need another project. Stay safe Mr. Lynn we work by our selves. Chuck

Just found this thread today and read through it. Awesome job and it's really interesting to see how people in other parts of the country build things!

Thanks for sharing!

Magicman

Thanks.  Sadly, saw jobs have been popping in at a fast pace this year and little has been accomplished on the Cabin.  I will be on a road trip sawing all of next week.   smiley_thumbsup smiley_thumbsdown

When I found this thread, I read it all with interest.  I bought my mill to do just as you have been doing for your addition.  Great thread.  I hope I have as much drive and strength when I am your age.  I seem to get burned out fairly easily and have to rest for a while, then I get back at it after a couple months or a couple of years... depending on how I feel! :-)  Great job old man!

Thanks guys.  I finally finished the deck here at home this week, so if the next sawmill customer postpones maybe I can get back on the Addition next week.

Finally !!!   Since I do not have time, I've just gotta make time.  Saturday was spent sizing/straight lining my inside wall paneling boards.  I will spend a few days next week planning and T&G.

Ben and Marty were my stacker/toters.

And then it was a family affair with stacking and cleaning up.

Yikes.  I wouldn't trust those horses anymore, now that they've been bent like that.  Looking forward to updated pics of the cabin!

:-\  Yup, everything has a limit, and obviously I exceeded those.  I'll probably just have to weld them in place.

I have 3 days this week set aside for Cabin work.   ;D
