Just Me

I found a 47 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup, and have been bugging the guy since I saw it, and he finally agreed to sell it to me. I'm excited! I love old trucks and have been without one for a few years.

Truck is 100% original as far as I can tell with the exception of the front brakes look to be more modern. Flathead six, four speed, and crank out front window. Bumpers are both good front and back, no dents, and it appears to only have one repaint, a recent blow and go that will easily be removed. No rust holes with the exception of one headlight bucket, and a small one at the back window lip. Floors are by and large good. Needs all glass, all seals, welting and so forth as they look to all be original. Doors close perfect, hood lines up just fine, even the box sides are almost dent free. Is missing a tailgate, but those are available as repops. According to him it runs great, but I don't really care about that, thats the easy part for me, it the straight body I was after. Easy restoration.

He left for vacation the day we agreed on a deal, so I don't have it home yet, but I don't have a warm shop this winter anyway so am in no hurry.

Can't wait for my first trip to the UP with it.......

A neighbor of mine has his father-in-laws old chevytruck, I think a 48-49,setting in a shed,I looked at it about 10 years ago.He said the only things not original on it was the rear tires and oil filter! It's been parked there since about 1950-51. He also told me I didn't have enough money to buy it though! It's still setting there, so I guess he knew what he was talking about huh.  I do have a 1950 Desoto to play with though, so life's still good.

it is good that that old chevy is sitting in a shed. so many people will let them sit outside and rust down rather than sell them to someone that would restore them. some of that old iron brings a lot of money these days.

First truck I drove on the hiway was a 59 160 cornbinder grain truck. I was living on a ranch in Southern Idaho and they needed someone to drive a grain truck back and forth 14 miles. I thought I was it baby! Will never forget that of course.

Come to think of it, that was not really an old truck in 1969...........

They had a really nice one in the center of the Dodge display last fall at Moultrie.  I check ebay from time to time for them, but the $$ keep me from doing anything.  Anybody here ever used one in the woods?  Do they work well there?

Howdy

I understand how wanting something can make you a little crazy.  There was a 1953 Willys Wagon in the neighborhood that sat in the front yard for years but the owner would never sell.  I keep looking for one just like it so of course the day I was bringing home one that I settled on he contacted me with the news if I still wanted it, bring cash now.  It took almost a week for the wife to find both of them hidden in the blackberries behind the garage!  I sold one later and still have the one I originally wanted in the garage.  I may never get it back on the road, but the grandkids and I have traveled the world in our imagination.  Worth its weight in gold for the pleasure it has given us.

My misspent youth lasted into my fourtys.......

Wow! I've never written them all down like that. I could retire if I had all of them today.

Just Me

My original intention was to leave this truck stock, but I really, really hate flatheads.
The old mopar flatheads run nice, but they are still flatheads. So......

I got my hands on a Hemi out of a 50's schoolbus today. Kind of fits well in the program, close to the same era, and I will leave it stock. Still, it will more than double the hp of the old truck, should make it a more interesting ride.

I knew this would happen.....
