Maybe y'all will know of other threads on this topic but I searched a bit and couldn't find one.   I thought it would be interesting to share pictures of some "creatures" found inside wood off the sawmill.  Here are three I found. The idea is that these be NOT be purposely man-made,  and owing their principal features to natural characteristics of wood.    The third one below is not off the sawmill,  so some license is perfectly OK,  but I thought it might be nice if it was kept appropriate for the Sawmill page.

"THE SCREAM"  in black walnut.   I found this guy laying there, looking at me on the sawmill.  He was green then turned brown. It seems he was not quite ready, and somewhat horrified to be born in such a manner.

"CHERRY BIRD".   You heard of cherry birch maybe.  I found this guy as I was stacking firewood from the slab pile which I had cut up with a chain saw.  The saw cut which makes his mouth was accidental and he is too,  100%.  I'll be grateful if you'll take my word for it.

"HEAVY LOAD".  This guy stood for many years along the trail out to Bluff Point, in Groton, CT.  He got tired and fell over, but he's still there.   Not off the sawmill but so what.

Anyway thanks for looking and would love to see some more you may have found.

That last one is pretty neat!  wonder if it landed that way or someone propped it up?

I think the load he carried at one point was the whole tree trunk. Bluff Point is a state nature preserve so they just let fallen trees rot there.

Thanks for sharing those. I like found tree art. I put up a partition in a garage last year and sheathed it with some left over pine 1x. There were two pieces that went up book matched, and with the knot holes and blue stain, there was a monkey looking back. I'd get a pic but it's covered over now.

Neat tree art!

Here is a couple I found......
the first is a plug that grew over a knot.  When turned over it yielded these lips.   The second appeared to the lower half of a man.......

Wow. I think you would be allowed to put eyeballs on it if you want.  Would be worried about where this is going (post below yours, above), except for that jeff is in charge.
