I was running the 670 to try and finish the low end tuning, But every time the saw went to an idle it would either rev too high or stall, so I got an idea from running it with the air filter cover off which let more air into the filter, I took the back part of the plastic cover and I drilled 2 holes in it on the back of the cover both holes are about 3/4 inch diameter, then I put the whole thing back together. By drilling these holes I think that I will enable the engine to use less fuel by letting more air into the carb, plus the filter will now be easier to check when I need to change it without taking the cover off the saw. This is just one of my productions caused by too much free time ;D
I just cant believe that I only paid $100 for this saw, and all I had to do was rebuild the carb, replace the throttle linkage, which I replaced with a piece of solid copper wire :D tune the carb, and free up a stuck piston ring. I aint even spent more than $2 to get parts for this thing yet. Aint I a cheap redneck?

I can't imagine how more air = less fuel. It just makes it leaner and more likely to burn up.  :-X
I may have been born on a turnip truck, but I didn't just fall off.

Drilling holes to make the saw run right doesn't sound like the right thing to do.  There's another reason that the saw isn't running right and by drilling holes in the cover to make it run right you are covering up what's really wrong.

long as u got the low end rich .. im assuming the h is reasonable.. i dont think u gonna lean burn it..somethin caused the problem tho..

I dont think its gonna burn up from running too lean anytime soon. I had it running to tune it after drilling the holes, and I set the high speed screw a little bit richer than normal so that is doesnt burn up or seize up or anything like that. I know it doesnt do anything negative to the saw because I did the same thing to my Poulan 2375 chainsaw first to test the modification, and It didnt do anything abnormal or negative to it so I would figure that I could do the same thing to the 670 without negative effect. Besides if it smokes a little bit, who cares, I love the smell of burnt oil in the morning :D :D   I just need to get a few more new parts for the saw and I'll be completely done with tuning and repairs for awhile. BTW, has anyone else ever heard of a fuel filter that has a plastic connector to the pickup line and a porous copper filter on it? Thats what came with the saw when I got it, and it didnt work very well because it was made of copper, or maybe it was made of brass. When I had the fuel filter problems I just stuck one out of something else in and it worked fine. Now if I could just get the semii chisel chain that I want....
