Logging Biger is better right???

We need a bigger truck or more hours in the day.  Cut and skid until noon today.  then hauled logs and pulp wood from our job until 4 and got this one on the truck as it was getting dark from a friends job.  need to do it all again in the morning.  with a tri axle it would have only been 3 trips not 5.

We just bought a tri-axle today, for $5,600. Our mechanic checked it out and found no major problems. He drove it back from Georgia. A few little fixits, and we should have it on and off the road. Our first grapple and boy will it be welcome. 1976 White. No hydraulic leaks.

Here in Minn. , on a Bobtail you could only haul about 2 1/2 cds , i would slip a air tag under it.

yea thats pauls hardwood job.  his 460 skidder cuter and loader are on his pine job.  he just has his old 450 on this job

If it was me Id get a bogie Dog or Pig Trailer for it but it would be a pita as you gotta either unhook or jackknife the trailer to load it there was one bloke who carted for a fella i was falling for that was pretty bloody good at jackknifing his dog trailer to load it with the crane  ;) Wood haulers Westernstar sounds too tempting though  ;) ;D

Pm me with a price for the Ford if you update to The Star  ;) as Jesi n I Might just get a smaller truck for a start plus we can always take it out n load the seimi and throw a load on the ford when we come home for the day as Jesi is getting her Cdl too  ;) ;D ;D ;D 8) 8)

Yes, Andy drove it back safely but says the front brakes need to be replaced, and some minor electrical issues and a minor air leak on the tag axle, but he thinks everything can be fixed up for less than $2,000. The engine, transmission, hydraulics, and tires all checked out good, so it should be a great addition to our fleet. Maybe one day I'll get some pics up. I think I need a refresher tutorial on how to upload pictures here. I tried finding it under the help topics, if anyone would like to steer me in the right direction, I'll work on it.

I'm going to order stakes for it today. We may use it to load the other truck with today-- got some 30" tulip poplar on the ground right now.... But we also need to get it registered, inspected, and so on.

Okrafarmer you just made life a little easier, nice looking rig, is that a Barko 60 or a 80 loader? A guy has to make sure the air tag lifts high enough so your not hung up with it. We ran singles on our air tag.
We had a 60 International Tri-axle with a 671 Detroit, 5x4 double stick, Barko 60, an ole screamer.

Make sure the dust shields are on the brakes, its something some guys don't get back on.

that is a prentice 110. nice find. slow and heavy but a good strong loader. check the nuts on the collar inside the aframe, they can loosen. also check for wear around the top link in the knuckle. if it wears thin enough to break the whole upper boom will swing towards the operator.

He registered it today, along with a 4-wheel-drive F700 former utilities truck with 35 ft. crane. I don't have a picture of that one handy yet. Both together, the registration was 4 digits. 

Our welding contractor is getting stakes ready for the White.

All our other big trucks are white, but the White is gray!  :D

The farthest back I know is that it got registered in North Port, Florida around Oct. 15, 2005. That is a solid month and a half after Katrina hit New Orleans. North Port was not in the path of Katrina. The name on that registration was Alpine (Industries, I think). No personal name. If the truck came down to the gulf for Katrina from Maine or anywhere else, it seems strange for it to be registered in North Port (just south of Sarasota) when it did. If it had been registered in Pensacola about that time, then that would be more understandable for the Katrina scenario. I haven't the foggiest notion what happened with that truck before Oct. 15 2005. Except for what you are telling me... do you have any way to verify that?

this mcnutt guy moved around a lot. he asked me the cut chip wood for him. i would say mid 90's. said he was from alton was renting a garage in brewer and ron says he lived in dixmont. at one time all his tired iron was at dysarts. seems like it was there a long time.

Hmm, the plot thickens.  Well, it is obvious that this truck has moved around a lot! We took it out yesterday to try to pick up a huge stump, and failed. Looks like we either need to do a little tinkering on the hydraulics, or get in there and knock all the dirt off the stump. We broke the shear pin holding the PTO shaft, and red-necked it back together enough to put the grapple away, then drove back home. (Used our part-time CDL driver). We might have tried some more things, but the driver had to get to a commitment-- he's a busy one! We are needing to go get our CDL road tests. Won't be in that rig, though. We have a newer truck we're fixing up for that.

Yes it is a Prentiss 110. We are having problems with the pivot gear (rack and pinion). It is binding up and popping. I guess we will have to replace or resurface the gear and/or rack. We will be doing a full inspection on it before putting it into serious use. But we did manage to go pluck a huge stump with it, its first payload for us. Uh, in case you were wondering, no we did not dig the stump out with it. The stump was already loose. We were just paid to haul it off.

the G i had back in the 70's broke the peice the loader pivots on. it was fairly common. after that had a 110 it was better. the a frame cracked on that one. not real bad the 110 was far better than the g

make sure the collar under the a-frame is tight. slop there could lead to the rack and pinion skipping.  we acutally used to dig stumps with ours. you had to be a little circumspect, digging around and breaking each root. we also set trusses, built rock walls, hauled sheds, and many other things with the old 110. looks like it had the same grapple as yours too. grease it good and often. it may be slow but its strong.
