I would rather deal with the sweetgum than alicanthus..tree of heaven. bloody things.

Yep have quite a few on my new place. Most are still small, so the local forester suggested basal bark with Garlon... need to pick some up and hit them all this year.

They are prolific.

Napalm...
Busting out some board and batten today....cants are square, and lumber is mostly straight, except where some big knots deflected the blade...these three logs are the tree I went to it the day of the accident.

Congrats! You should edit your title now: sawmill hit...resurrected!!!

zopi

actually, it was about a week...I did not even touch the mill until I finally got the police rport a week ago. I decided that it was better to go ahead and fix the bloody thing and insurance companies and ambulance chasers be damned. I would rather save what money I would likely lose to the "profession of law" and put it towards a new mill down the road.

next....re-designing that stupid @#$%^&* head stow pin...I hate pulling the bloody ramps off to get that last two boards out.  it is alot of fun to forget about them and get into the cut, hit the ramp, and have to back up in the cut to get the stinkin' ramp off...

I am just seeing this topic for the first time, I don't think I was a member when this post was first made earlier this year.  As some of you guys may have figured out my full time job is that of a deputy sheriff in the upstate of SC.  Part of my duties are that of an accident reconstructionist; that is I am certified to reconstruct evidence left on the roadway, ground, vehicles, ect... and determine what happened and how fast things were moving at the time of the accident.  Anytime there is an ify collision such as the one described in this post especially when someone is turning and gets hit from behind look at sight distance.  If you are turning and have say 100 yards of sight distance in front of you, a car that is coming toward you they can cover those 300 feet in 3.4 seconds at 60 mph. versus about 6.8 seconds at 30 mph.  With that said, an average vehicle with all four wheels braking evenly should be able to stop in about 43 feet at 30 mph and 172 feet at 60 mph.  These are very basics and don't account for reaction times, the road's coefficient of drag, or other human factors and in (NO way are to be considered Legal Advise).  But if someone was running 90 would have a stopping distance of 385 feet which would have made it impossible to stop giving the sight distance.  I bring this all up because it is pretty simple to show that someone ie. The other driver in this case may have been driving too fast for conditions and they be the one that actually contributes to the collision.  It may or may not help you out, but a good certified reconstructionist can help you or hurt you come court time!  Best of luck to all and drive safe.
