Hello I'm seeking a tree/log scaler to look at a small stand of hard maple on my farm..I believe they are venner grade and ready to harvest.Also is the closest or only veneer mill in Pembroke ontario...Thks. if someone could advise on this..

Might there be some local foresters in the area? You'd want one that can grade the logs reasonably well, besides tree scaling. Hope to find one that knows veneer grades.

Short of that, would you post some pictures of a few trees (at least three sides) of the butt log that we might see how they look? Size matters, so some diameters breast height (DBH) would also help.

Veneer quality does change depending on the markets, but today's markets would likely require at least three if not all four faces to be clear of defects showing in the bark. Internal defects overgrown will show indicators in the bark for several years.
