It very well may be the future. Then again, who knows? As most of us do know, the future is very difficult to predict with a great deal of certainty.

I can appricate some degree of this, but sustainability doesnt have to be "without outside support". It is about maxamizing resources as a human race. That is what we lack in our society, our "throw away" society exacts a HUGE toll on the planet. We can all see this every week "curbside" on every street in America. I remember my Mom's 1950's Hoover sweeper that my Grandfather fixed and fixed (we used it in 1980's) Today I see one year old vacs curbside......It is indicative of the state of things......

I have numerous friends who are at varying degrees on the continueum of "off the grid" and sustainability. I recently met a guy (a 20 something immigrant PHD type) who has a "farm" down in WV as his "relocation" point for he and several buddies (only a couple acres) but enough to gve them a rallying point if something happens. Smart people plan/ prepare and think about skill sets. Today it is not necessarily about forging iron, growing crops, etc... but also tech savvieness and electronic literacy (my challlenge).

It comes off "wanky", but it is well intended, and the "portable power pack" makes alot of sense. I have thought of this, but the ineffiecency and heat build up is a limiting factor for hydraulic systems.
