Anyone ever had a tire vulcanized?  I have one with a tear in the shoulder area, maybe 3" long.  I've heard of a few "farmer fixes" too.

Yes it is a very good fix at a cost saving of buyer new tire
If you put your finger in your ear and scratch, it sounds like PacMan.

Yes it can be done , depending on where the cut is. Last on I had done cost about 20% of a new tire, been on the skidder for several years now.

If the tear is too close to the bead our local shop won't do it.   We he had several tires repaired this way and it works good

seems like the tire guys get all nervous when you start talking about repairing side walls... if you talk em into it they will at least try.  Whine and complain the whole time but they will try... and it will probably hold just fine, after all it does have a tube in it...
well that didn't work

I have stiched tears up with conveyor belt splices and put a big patch inside.

I've also seen pieces bolted in with carriage bolts.  I was told it could be stitched up like a baseball with SS cable.  If its going to take more that 3 days to repair I am better off buying a new set for the front.

I have repaired many tires with conveyor belt and carriage bolts. The cable method wasn't so good it tends to tear out. I would advise if you repair a tire with belting then put it on the front cause on the rear with the weight it won't last. Oh and I found that you need to taper down the edges of the patch or it will chaff the tube out. The longest patched tire I used was nine years on the front of a TJ 230 forwarder and only replaced the tube once in that time. In fact the two front tire on my own machine now are belted.
