I have a Cannon bar I want to use on my 084. What gets me is it's 3/8 and not .404.  All I've read was to use a .404 on long bars. What would a 3/8 be used for in that length?

It would  work no doubt .A 60" bar is a PNW thing anyway .Maybe some of the west coasters have an answer .

I would use 3/8" skip chain on it. 5' is a lot of chain to pull, and in a long cut, skip chain will not bog the saw down as much. 3/8" over .404 for the same reason, a littler narrower kerf, won't rob as much hp. Canon bars are nice 8)
Turbosawmill M6 (now M8) Warrior Ultra liteweight, Granberg Alaskan III, lots of saws-gas powered and human powered :D

.404 has fallen out of favor here, we are an Oregon distributor and sell little of it. It worked on the old long stroke slower revving saws with lots of torque but weight and vibration were killers. Your 084 will perform a lot better with 3/8 skip on that monster bar.
