Sawing a worming pine log today to get some 5x5's out of the middle where it isn't wormy.
Third cut in and:

Cut two round edge worming slabs:

Don't know if they'll sell or sit here till they dry out.
We'll see.

Mm, I opened it up and it was too far gone.  It was a bust, a lot of work for nothing.

You know mm that's what I was thinking. Take the chainsaw and cut blocks out of all the solid parts. There's a fair amount of solid wood in there.

that slab could be a money maker if you filled the voids with blue epoxy and coated it all. Would cost a bit in epoxy to do this and would be a gamble but would probably sell

I was thinking the same thing except for the blue part.

Just Right

Solid black epoxy would make that look good!  Just my 2 cents.
If you are enjoying what you are doing,  is it still work?

Busysawyer

I thought about the epoxy slabs but the issue is there isn't enough there to hold the slab together. When I cut it pieces just fall everywhere.  I would have to box it up and assemble it like a jig saw puzzle. It could be done.  I'm saving that log but dont have time to mess with it right now

Honestly, for the folks who like the river look, that table is a huge win. Would make a great black epoxy table.

Busysawyer

Alright you guys talked me into it. I'll wrestle with that thing again and see if I can slab it.
Cut more pretty walnut slabs today. Honestly I'm sick of walnut but people keep gobbling it up so I'll give the masses what they want and slab walnut every day. Talk about boring.

Mm, I like the way walnut cuts, I like the smell, I like the look of the wood but variety is the spice of life. Cherry is probably my favorite out of what I have available to me.

Yep, that was the sound of Danny ( @WDH ) falling out of his chair.
Heard it all the way up here in Canada.  ;D
He LOVES walnut, and that statement would never pass his lips.
Matter of fact, he may consider it irrational and just downright provocative.
Hope he doesn't take any notice . . .

Geez, I like walnut just not all day every day. Just like chocolate cake, love the stuff but not everyday.  My mill says woodmizer on it not walnutmizer.

I do feel spoiled. Walnut ,cherry, maple, hickory and red oak are prevalent around here. Wish we had red cedar,  syp and more white oak. I'd like to saw some of them as well.

Send me a truck here with some of your walnut and I'll send it back loaded with white oak.   :D :D  I'll even throw in a nice "putter" pine log or two for free.   :D

White oak grows everywhere here.

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.
