He got away before I could snap a picture. But a sign maker guy, who does it on the side from his full time job, just picked up all of the pine round/natural edge slabs I had on hand for sale.
Nice when that happens.
Now I need to cut some more for stock and to sell.

PS he got a new flag for his load too.
Whatever you do, have fun doing it!

White oak is terrible about pith cracking.  Your crotches will probably split as they dry.

And it will probably split more as it dries, but it should still make a beautiful table, etc.

That White Oak I posted this morning turned out some pretty nice slabs...but like WDH said they were already split pretty good.  I'll put these to the side and see how they do

Bowties from walnut will look great on those slabs and keep checking in check.

Dawg, it's more that Oak does not knit/graft together like some other species.

Here is a sinker Cypress crotch log that I sawed a few years ago.

Back on pine today...cutting 1x6x10...I got about 4000 bf of 4/4" pine lumber orders to fill next week.. 8)

That lt 40 cuts straight

Small load of walnut left here today, guys from York,SC he's building a house...need dry walnut

It's too hot...gonna knock off for a while

And I build all my sheds and barns out of WOOD! It's cheap and plentiful!  And great advertisement!  I know there the best...but I don't believe in metal buildings around a sawmill.  But I do have plans for me one in the future...need a 80' x 100' metal building with enclosed sides on a pad and roll up doors to store the dry lumber for sale in!  8)

vcouple nice ch i sawed this week

Ruffgear

new guy with sawmill (borrowed). Have been doing a bit of sawing when time allows. Couple weeks back picked up a mess of walnut. Now what to do with it? Would like to make some slabs from some of it, problem is my saw only cuts 24" wide.

Ruffgear

 couple more photos.. I hope

Magicman

Since you can only saw 24' wide you can always open the first face down to that ~24" mark, rotate 90° and then take one live edge bookmatched slabs from the remainder.  You will then have plenty of stock that will easily make eye popping bookmatched tables.

That is exactly what we did with the Red Oak log on the right.

These two one live edge bookmatched slabs will make the customer a nice dining table.

Same thing here with this Pecan log.

Two bookmatched slabs for a dining table (bullets no extra charge).  ;D

Cut more pine 1x6 today

I started marking my saw down ends with a piece of the kids sidewalk chalk...works pretty good.  MM taught me years ago to saw with the HORNS UP!

That old HF dust blower still kicking it out...probably got a 1000hrs on it by now  ;D

This is my blade after about 500 bf of that sticky pine!

Then Justin showed up this evening with a load of big oak and cedar logs come out of downtown Charlotte,NC!  8)

Now...better get to sawin!

Havent put a tape on them yet...but some good cedar!

For construction lumber and framing.  Not so for furniture grade :).  You can deal with bow in framing, but sidebend is a killer.  You can deal with side bend in furniture grade, but bow is a killer :).

You got that right! Good point! Yeah this going to be subflooring in a historical rehab job...Actually this lumber is going into the restoration of the old movie theater in our little town of Jefferson,SC. Not sure when the last movie was played there, but probably in the 40s.  I'll try and get some pics of it tommorow, I've been sawing on this job since the first of the year 8)

About every other Saturday this guy is waiting on me at the gate in the morning to get his lumber...nothing like a customer that shows up on time when they say they will with a pocket full of cash...they get the best pricing with me
